Looking for second car (after SLK)
I’ve got a 2002 SLK 320 which has been relegated to my daily driver for the past two years. I reluctantly traded my 2008 VW Passat VR-6 4Motion in on a GLK for my wife with the intention of driving my SLK for a couple years then shifting it to my weekend fun car. That time has come and I am starting my search for a fun, comfortable and sporty daily driver.
I know it’s dangerous but I am soliciting input on sub $20k cars with under 40k miles.
My ideal and top choice would be a 2006-2008 Audi S4 Avant, however low mileage versions of this model are like a unicorn and hard to comeby. Especially in the southeastern US.
The more practical side of me is considering a 2012-14 Volkswagen GTI Autobahn, with the 2008 R32 right behind it, but again low mileage examples are hard to come by.
I have also considered the Audi TT, but would only consider the 3.2 Quattro unless I were to find a TT/S cheap enough(which price wise would almost certainly require either me trading my SLK, the GLK or my wife), finding a low mileage S-line in my price range is probably a long shot.
Another idea I had was a BMW 135i, but having never owned a BMW and I am not as familiar with their idiosyncrasy, as I am VAG (VW/Audi) cars and know close to nothing about the early ones before 2011.
I briefly contemplated finding a VW GLi Edition 30, but realized the build quality as compared to the German made GTI would probably disappoint.
I haven’t really thought much about Mercedes products, mainly due to price and mileage requirements. A used C55 would be in my price point, but again mileage; and a newer C250 just doesn’t inspire the sporty side of me. The same goes for things like the Subaru WRX, or Hyundai Genesis coupe…in addition to wanting low miles. I also want a quiet, solid built car and the Japanese don’t inspire me either.
