Ba 777

Something went really wrong

. I would say BA has a total loss here.

“It appears to have been an uncontained engine failure," John Hansman, director of the MIT International Center for Air Transportation, told ABC News.

Mangled metal likely shot out of the engine like "shrapnel," igniting a fire in the plane's belly, he said.

The jet was traveling at just under 90 mph when the flames burst forth, according to FlightRadar24.

I wonder if you can buy it cheap and make a chicken coop out of it to impress your neighbors.

Boy that was a close call. They said on the radio the Captain only had 2 flights left before retirement. I be sure he now got some stories too tell at the Pup.

After an incident/accident they take you off the line while the "facts" are reviewed. From what I heard this guy did everything right, but the paper work (it is the UK after all) would burn up his last few weeks I imagine.

The expert cited at the top...doing so well... till he said "lighted a fire in the belly". Not so much...that's heat damage from the engine fire..there's nothing in that area to burn (other than aluminium). Other than bits and bobs, the hull is a write off, ditto the wing. Very lucky, as they were at low speed (90knots is kind of a no brainer stopping wise). Good job to front and back end crews. Head shake and pfffft to the passengers that a) already had their shoes off, b) were taking video (your life is in imminent danger), c) took their carry on luggage with them (risking other peoples lives in the process).
