After an incident/accident they take you off the line while the "facts" are reviewed. From what I heard this guy did everything right, but the paper work (it is the UK after all) would burn up his last few weeks I imagine.
The expert cited at the top...doing so well... till he said "lighted a fire in the belly". Not so much...that's heat damage from the engine fire..there's nothing in that area to burn (other than aluminium). Other than bits and bobs, the hull is a write off, ditto the wing. Very lucky, as they were at low speed (90knots is kind of a no brainer stopping wise). Good job to front and back end crews. Head shake and pfffft to the passengers that a) already had their shoes off, b) were taking video (your life is in imminent danger), c) took their carry on luggage with them (risking other peoples lives in the process).
