Good for you Vin!! And congrats!!

As for proposal ideas, I wasn't too creative in that department.

We were sitting in the parking lot of a Mervyn's (Department store in California) and basically decided that's what we should do. Honestly, it was more of a "business" decision than anything else (Two airmen make more money being married than living together.). I knew I "liked" her alot!!

Anyway, I didn't figure out how much I loved her until about a year and a half into the marriage!! 20+ years later I wouldn't have changed a thing!! Can't help going bald...

But back to you...I'm certain you'll do a fine job, especially since you're actively searching for ideas. Most fiances should be so lucky!!

Go for a good meal in a good restaurant. When the waiter is bringing the bill inside a wallet, take a look inside. Be astonished about it ans say: "No! What´s that?" Hand it to your girl friend and ask her to look inside. Inside the wallet there should be a small letter handwritten: Please marry me!
After a second another waiter should bring 2 glases and a bottle of champagne and let them play "I will allways love you" from Whitney Houston.

You should organize it with the owner of the restaurant before.

Congrats!!!!!!

Go for a relaxing drive in the country on back woods roads next to pastures of horses. Act as if you are having car trouble and stop on the side of the road next to horses in a field. (Girls always like horses)
Get out and kneel down next to the front drivers tire as if you are checking the air.

Ask her to get out to help you.

When she walks around the car, you will be there on one knee with a ring in your hand.

After she says yes! You get the picnic basket out of the trunk, spread a blanket in the field, pop open the wine and celebrate!

This is close to what I did. I visited the restaurant earlier in the day and delivered the ring to the manager. I had it arranged that I would order a bottle of Champagne (it was Mother's Day so this was not out of the ordinary). The waiter brought the champagne pre-opened and two glasses already poured. The ring was in the bottom of her glass. It took her about 5 minutes to notice it, and I proposed when she did. It was great.

Interestingly, later that night her daughter was required to have an emergency appendicitis. We spent the whole night in the hospital. She later said if I could handle that and be by her side all night, she knew she picked the right guy.

Unfortunately she said yes... and I am now happily single... but the place is really good. Have a look.

Why not select Holland Park in Kensington, specifically their "Japanese Garden" Its quiet a romantic and peaceful place to propose and she might not expect it as if you were going for a walk around the park.

Congratulations Vin!!

If you want this to be a big surprise, then the timing of the proposal has to fit into what both of you normally do, almost as a routine. So when the day comes, it seems that nothing is out of the ordinary.

If you usually dine at a nice restaurant say once a month, then that's probably the place to do it. As stated, prior arrangements should be made with the management and staff ahead of time. A friend of mine had the inscription "Will you marry me?" on the dessert that the girlfriend usually orders. Needless to say, she was in tears.

Mushy Mushy. You romantic sorts, make me wanna puck. Try the Norf Carliner way: While ridin down the road in your truck, stop beside the freshest road kill you find. Hand her the bag and scoop and say"its your turn to git dinner". As she is scoopin up supper, walk up behind her and slap her on the behind, when she turns to see who is flirtin wid her, hand her a pop top from your last beer and say try this an see ifn it fits your fanger. If it fits ask her to marry you cause you hope the milk will taste better when you buy the cow. Ifn the pop top don't fit, tell her, soon as you loose enuf weight to git this on your fanger, I will ask you to marry me. That night if she eats salad while ur eatin possum an grits, you know she wants to marri you. If she eats possum and grits wid ya, you know she don't care about marryin ya. Took my wif 3 more years after our romantic proposal to loose the wt and git the pop top on, but she says it waz worth every missed meal. If by chance this don't wurk. Try the West Virginia method: Jus say to her while skinnin a hog, "hay sis, you wanna marry me?" That worked for me twice. The most important thing to remember is: Make sure she is not a virgin. Cause if she aint good enuf fer her own brothers, you dont want no part of her... PS, check her toofs real guud, dentists charge $2.00 per toof to pull them, you could spend a fortune ifn she has more than 3 toofs.

Now the serious: Congratulations to both of you. May your partnership in life be blessed and happy. Whatever you do, make the moment fit your life. If you have been quiet private people for your lives together, make your time and place quiet and private. If you have enjoyed a more active life with many friends and such for dinners and jokin an carryin ons, propose in that same environment. It is so important to be yourself all the time, no put ons, in good times and bad you and she are the same people. Respect her for who she is and accept her as that person never wanting or expecting her to change to please you. You and only you will know what will work best to set that moment in both your memories as "The most important day of your lives". A place mutually favored by both as special and words from your heart will do the trick every time. Now that Im cryin, I gonna go. Best Wishes from the forum clown....
