Extra curricular activities

A few kind of touched on this in the "What is your profession" posts.

Tell what you do when not at work. (Other than drive around, with no where special to go, in your SLK...or am I the only one that does that! LOL)

My wife and I have been involved with Boy Scouts for about 12 years. Now we are Leaders of the coed Venture Crew which is kind of the next step beyond Boy Scouts.

We have Boy Scout/Girl Scouts and any other kids ages 14-20 that want to join. Some of the kids have never been in Boy/Girl Scouts, so camping, back packing and the such is a real fun adventure for them.

The Venture Crew is allowed to do much more than the Boy Scouts. This year we all were Scuba certified. We are taking the group on a Cruise to Cozumel Mexico for a dive trip June 24th.

A couple of weekends ago we went Zipping thru the trees on a Zip Line Aventure Tour. Lots of fun! If you haven't done that....you gotta try it!

So if your kids are 14-20 years old, tell them to join a local Venture Crew. They will have lots of fun!

Current extra curricular activity: SLK World competition. Past activities: Golf, surfing, sky diving, drag racing, scuba diving, martial arts (Kali), **** (dealer and competition), car collecting, sailing and traveling the world. Currently renovating our home, restoring a 66 El Camino, running a vending repair company, flying for a living and enjoying life with the love of my life. Future challenges, retiring to Mexico and fishing with my new Hatteras, enjoying the spoils of 47 years of work.

I do wood work as a hobbie and Jo does painting --- although we both have not done either for the last 3 years --- been to busy getting the new yard into shape --- its about 85% done now and as we are newlyweds we have been getting to know each other and melding are two families into one plus we have put about 50K miles into trips the last 2 and 1/2 years
so as to what we do in our free time we don't have any

I've been trying to finish a 1/35 scale armor model of the Russian T72M1 for the last 2 years but end up browsing and posting instead at SLKworld. Maybe next weekend ... or the next ... or the one after that ...

Going to my kids games. This time of year it's baseball for my son, softbal;l for my daughter. Both are on on the varisty team. Then my son's travel baseball team starts up.

I'm also working on the house extension. I like to play golf (my per stroke cost is very low and I see parts of the golf course a good golfer never sees) but not sure if I will be able to do it this year. I'm also a hunter. At some point I need to restore a 69 Firebird I have sitting in my garage.

Oh yeah, and looking for a job.

Being self employed. work consumes a lot of my time. I'm dedicated to what I do and the results justify my efforts. Currently, I work six days per week. Yea, that kinda sucks. I could work less, but I would probably turn to a life of crime and wrong doing. My life has two chapters, home and work, and I love them both. At this stage of my life, I'm doing EXACTLY what I want to do. I know many people who are retired and have plenty of free time. I would rather tip the scale and stay busy and productive. I'm a firm believer in "plan your work, and work your plan". I squeeze a lot of activities into just seven days per week. A lot of work and a lot of fun.

Since the wife retired (22+ yrs Air Force) and we moved to Germany for my job, our extra curricular activity has been getting the house we're renting up to our living standards. Along with painting and wallpapering, most of our spare time has been spend getting this jungle of a yard under control.

When things start settling down, our extra time will be consumed by volksmarching, traveling and getting back in the air with the aero club. And I plan on visiting some folks from SLKWorld and a few other folks I've met over the last year that are within Cessna distances.

Self employed as well, or as I call it "gainfully unemployeed". However, I put work in a minimum of 6 days a week. I quit my free-ride M.D. scholarship and followed the advice of an instructor and am doing what I love. One smell of a hospital reminds me why I definatly did not love medicine.

I visit family a lot. Like most "gay children" I am the only one trying to take care of my elderly parents and grandparents that my straight brother, three sisters, and various relatives forgot existed outside of baby sitting and loan co-signing duties.

Other free time: SCCA Solo II Autocross & High Speed Time Trials, computer games like World of Warcrack, and Test Drive Unlimited, some graphic design, and a *** life straight guys can only dream about. Well, except for 'Heff, but I doubt he still has the stamina to compete with a man of my age.

I used to work on my cars, restoring a FIAT X1/9, '72 Cutlass Convertible, etc. I love wet sanding and waxing my cars, detailing them to impossible levels. Now I spend that time on the house. I can't say I am a car collector, because even when I had 5 cars, they don't sit in the garage. I drive them, all the time, and if they are sports cars, they get driven hard. If I had a $3 million dollar Ferrari (instead of a $3 million house) I'd be the one everyone gasped at because I drove it across state to the car show.

I love beautiful artwork of cars, like Talbot's, etc. However, they were made to move, and art is best when used to its fullest!

I will never be truely wealthy, as I spend, enjoy and donate the money I make. I am not Bill Gates or Warren Buffet, I neither have billions to give, nor have I formally been a greedy asshole who feels the need to hold press conferences about my donations. I donate what I can when I can and always keep some cash in the car's center console to give the people or charities in need.

I volunteer for various organizations, and plan and help various clubs with events. I do various free work for organizations and small businesses. Big on the Film Festivals and even help out a Director friend when I can. (She's the greatest thing to happen to action films in years, check out www.lanecity.com) Yes, for your information, she is a real female, and is hetero***ual. She just needs a real budget to let her talent shine!

I have travelled much of the world, and will continue to. I grew up dirt-poor, and everything I have, and everything I have done, I have appreciated and loved. Every day I wake up I remind myself how blessed I have been, in so many ways.

My fear about getting old is not being bored, but not being usefull. Unfortunatly we are a society that throws old people away, rather then learning from their wisdom and skill.
