SharePod

Features

* Copy songs and playlists from your iPod to your PC
* Copy songs from a PC to your iPod - you don't need iTunes to add music to your iPod anymore!
* Completely customizable organization of copied files - choose your own folder and filename structure
* Integration with iTunes - once you have copied music to your PC, easily add it to your iTunes library
* Built-in Media Player
* Search by Title, Artist, Album, Genre (or any combination)
* Create Winamp-style playlists from the music on your iPod so you can listen to it without needing to copy the mp3 files to your computer.
* iPod Network File Sharing - If you are on a network, (e.g. at work/university) and you enable the feature, other users can run your copy of SharePod from their own computers, and download music directly from your iPod!
* No messy install/uninstall process - SharePod is just a couple of files

My real problem with Apple and iTunes is that when you purchase a song off of iTunes you can only play it on your iPod and/or iTunes. I like my Creative Media Source Player with the 24 bit Crystalizer. But I can't play any of my iTunes purchased music on it. I am stuck with the crappy iTunes player and its dumpy EQ presets.

Does this program fix that issue? Does it somehow trick other players into thinking the iTunes purchased song is a regular old mp3? If so, I would be willing to pay some doe for it.

It was enough to make me check out other players and services. Unfortunately, I think iPod still rules the roost.

iPod only rules the roost because they've spent millions on advertising. For various reasons, one major one of which you already mentioned, it most certainly is not a superior product. But if you shove something in people's faces long enough, they except it as true...shame.

I can't remember if I have done this or not, but here is a suggestion. Create a virtual CD. Microsoft has a free virtual CD program and there are others. Use the iTunes software to burn to the virtual CD. (no need to waste a real CD). Then use Windows Media Player to rip the virtual CD to MP3 files.

Does that work?

the point with Sharepod is that, when you connect your iPod to any computer, you can import AND export music (or other files) from and to your iPod without having to install anything and without having iTunes already installed on that other PC.

With iTunes you can't export from your iPod.

Have you tried iPod Music Liberator? It will free the music of the DRM and you will be able to listen to your music with Winamp, for example.
