Cell phones

This is nuts! I counted the number of active cell phones that we have. We have one in each car (3). Two personal cells for my wife (for USA and Bangkok). And two personal cells for me (again for the USA and Thailand). That's 7 cell phone account...7 numbers. And the really crazy thing is that I initiate a cell phone call maybe once a month. Almost always I am the 'callee', not the caller.

Isn't it possible to have several cell phones using one number....sort of like extension phones in a house? I know I'd have to have at least two numbers...for the USA and Thailand.

The phone on the left...my oldest, is about 8 years old: it just dials numbers. The one on the right is 2 days old: it dials numbers, takes photographs, plays music, has an appointment diary, does text, vibrates, has a full color screen-saver (wallpaper) and may even refrigerate beer. The Motorola on the left needed only to have its battery charged to make it work, The Samsung on the right needed a team of Thai cell phone girls to bring it up to speed.

For my two phones, I have a duo system, I mean if I don't pick up on my "pocket" cellphone it's automatically transferred to the cellphone in my car.

I have only to give the number of my pocket phone to people though each phone has it own sim which has each it's number. So I can call from my car phone while my passenger can call on my pocket phone if it's needed.

In this system, I have only one voicemail for the two numbers and it's only a fairly cheap option on my main number

I would say get the "roaming ringer" that tries whatever phone. Get a PocketPC or Smart Phone and teach people to send you text messages and emails you can answer with the phone.

Oh yeah, stop by www.jabra.com and pick up the JX10 hands free bluetooth, so you don't have to pick the phone up, or buy the car option. The one has a signal processing chip that eliminates background and works at 75 MPH with the windows up and top down.

PS: One more thing, luck into a plan that has the first incoming minute free, no matter what time of day. Sprint would so love to see that go away on my account.

in Europe, we don't need a smartphone or a palmtop to send SMS (text messages) or even e-mails!

Most later model cellphones (probably last 2 years) are capable of sending and receiving text messages. Check with your wireless phone service provider.

We're using text messages here for more than 6 years... all phones sold since the Nokia 6111, I believe, are text messaging capable... for the e-mails, it has been the case for about 3 years since the GPRS network was added to the normal network.
