That use to happen out in Phoenix occasionally. We had a plane while I was at Luke AFB that landed when it was supposed to go to Sky Harbor. Needless to say, the pilot was ass deep in alligators when the plane stopped.

Hats off to the pilot that took off again on a short runway.

May be Der Flieger can give us some clues on why this would happen.

Not a cheap mistake to make.....Ouch....!

We've had students do that in the past, but generally easier to resolve...

Cheers

Dateline Paris - so not me!

Froggy... Yes a C-17 landed short of McDill/Tampa earlier this year but at least it can do short field takeoffs!

My best guess is they gad good weather and decided to do a visual approach. That said I would think someone would have dialed up the ILS for glidepath backup or noticed the field is rather small!

The 747 pilot could have had an out and said he was practicing "touch and go's" and had an engine issue! The guy just didn't think fast enough. Of course if he was thinking, he wouldn't have landed at the wrong airport!
