He has an id from veteran's administration. He has a point:

https://www.va.gov/healthbenefits/ac...ation_card.asp

He should be carrying his ID anyway.

I don't like false advertising and the whole thing just does not feel right on either end of the stick. I don't care for the vets attitude (kindness goes along way) but then I also understand why some vets end up with that attitude as when I came back from Iraq I was mad at the world for quite some time. McDonald's managers should have been properly trained as to what would suffice for proof of military service and then the employees should be quickly trained. The fact that a business is willing to offer the free meal is still a consideration and service members or vets should not act as if it was owed to them and be grateful for the attempt to provide the service. Its just a messed up situation overall.
The message here is be grateful and in these situations where the employees are not properly trained don't take it out on them just send a nice little message to the corporation that if they are going to offer the service it would be nice if they would also train their employees on how to handle the service. I was happy when I got a military discount from a business and completely understood when a business would say sorry we don't offer those discounts here. Its one of those things that at least the attempt to offer the meal was there, as it would be worse if corporations never made the attempt at all due to negative blowback.

I get annoyed when only active duty and not retired members are recognized at certain events/promotions. I do recognize that active takes precedent.

It's a good thing he wasn't promised a Mercedes-Benz key chain. LOL Sorry, I couldn't resist, Jeff.

The vets problem here is that he did not differentiate between ignorance and stupidity. The McDonalds employee was not stupid, she just did not know - and said so! Not her fault, and the vet was rude to her. That reflects poorly on other vets, and causes prejudice towards vets by businesses and the public in general. While I can understand his frustration, when someone does not know something, and says so, being rude about it only makes things worse. DGG77, I agree with your assessment.

From a retail standpoint, I understand them *if* there was no ID to be had. If there was, then McDonalds should endure the wrath.

I believe that active duty and vets deserve WAY more than what we give them
I believe not enough people do for any service person active or not
I believe they should get housing and security regardless of when or where they served

Kindness goes a long way, period. Any human being that allows me to sleep peacefully at night and provides safety for my quality of life deserves a HELL of a lot more than a happy meal.

Okay im done

What about veterans that did not retire or did not get a medical discharge? I served 10 years and don't have any card or proof other than my DD214 which I would be lucky if I could find it. I haven't seen it since I got my VA loan 18 years ago.

Isn't a VA Benefits card available to dependents of retired or active duty? Not a valid form of identification that you actually wore the uniform and stood guard.

I think some of these type promotions are more for appeal than doing an actual service for someone. People see the corporation offers a meal to a group that the individual admires or respects so they patronize the place. Is getting a sandwich really going to help someone that has a smart phone and can film this to begin with?

I feel that if you put up a promotion, you should train all your employees what forms of identification is considered to be proof of service. Since the promotion did carry the word "or" proof. Clearly she was not told what was considered to be acceptable and did not understand the word "or"
