Your Next Ride

I love the SLK 55 AMG...no doubt. But with so many cars from so many manufacturer's I find that I view it as a stepping stone.

I can't personally afford multiple (expensive or exotic) cars at the same time. My wife deserves a nice ride and I invest in that, albeit not to the AMG level. My AMG is my daily driver (as I think all cars should be used and enjoyed daily).

So, I have been looking at some exotics in the 1 to 3 year old range. Ferrari's, Lambo's, A-M's, etc. At the same time, I am looking at next (pricing) level AMG's, as I now find myself with both an affinity and a loyalty to these great constructs. A 1 to 2 year old low mileage SL AMG might fit the bill. So might a brand new Dodge Viper, or a heavily modded RS8. Very conflicted...

What do you all think? What is the loyalty layer for you? MB, AMG, specific model, price point, performance, "look at me" value, track readiness, ricer embarrassment, rareness, collection value, wife approval, this forums great people and a sincere desire to remain a part of it?

I’m not looking for you to criticize my possible choices, or recommend others, just what you think of your wonderful SLK in the timeline of your vehicle ownerships/investments...and how that weighs on your mind.

I think my next vehicle will be a combination of what I like and how much I can afford :)

I am usually not loyal to any manufacturer, which ever has the better car I will drive :) (though very doubtful i would go back to a japanese car except for the GTR maybe...)

Though if I were to get a car right now or in the near future I would be looking at the RS5 (if its coming out anytime soon ???), E-Coupe or 2nd hand SL AMG

I guess I'm just new into my "next ride" from the SLK55. I too have absolutely no manufacturer loyalty, I've just always bought what struck me at the time as "the one". The SLK55 is a great ride and I do miss it, but I couldn't see me getting into the exact same car again when the opportunity presented itself. Variety is the spice of life, so I like to sample something different each time I go shopping for a new toy.

Oh, I have brand loyalty. 20 years and 10 vehicles with Lexus. But they let me down on the performance front. A and F series? Too little, too late.

That's how I found the 55. Was totally sold on a porsche, but very disappointed in the dealer experience, leg room, option levels, etc. AMG was a far easier choice...and stunningly beautiful. Didn't hurt that the wife's jaw dropped as well.

The point is that I want to move up, and life/ownerships experiences change over time. I would really love a 67 Camaro RS from Barrett-Jackson for $500K, but my Microsoft stock could barely fill my gas tank right now. :td:

It could be worse, you could have had Nortel stock...don't ask *L*. Well, whatever it is, good luck with the hunt - that's half the fun!

I have no idea what I'll drive next. I've had quite a few cars, and swore I'd keep them all. Then something changed. They broke, I had kids, manufacturers made something new...

I wasn't looking for an SLK when I bought my first one. But I liked the first one so much I bought a second. I've always liked Porsche, and I love the little Lotus. But I'm the other part of this equation, and I may need something eventually that accommodates an old man! I'm leaning away from the Lotus and towards an SL for that reason.

So we'll see. Live life in the present....

What I would absolutely love to get is a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano but realistically if I was fortunate of having the opportunity to get one I would really go for a car half of its price which is an exotic or something along those line with less power and the rest of the funds might be kept in a savings account for 1-3 years until I decide how and where to invest my funds.

Realistically speaking something like a G55 or the C63 are the most appealing cars to get right now, too bad G55's are getting very common now a days. I am really torn and glad that I dont have the opportunity to get a new car, honestly I got feed up from my Cayenne and if I was going to get a new car it would be kept for heavy usages like going to the Chalet or farm in the weekends for high miles.

Hopefully when the stocks do pick up then I might be in the market for a new car, however due to political party conflicts and grilling of the prime minister there could be a likely chance to dissolve the national assembly and that might keep the financial risk plans a side and stop the stimulating package of the economy as in Kuwait we have two to three financial houses or firms that are in deep water.

As like the U.S economy which was at 14,000 barrier back in 2007, Kuwaits index fell from abouts of 15,000 to around 6,400. Companies are going under par value, Volatility was high way back but if I am going to invest I'd wait until the dividends are paid out and see how prices change.

Barring any unforseeable accidents that would require a replacement . . . My next "ride" will more than likely be an airplane. Some form of Cessna most likely. Or maybe an RV-10 if the wife will let me build as opposed to buy.

Nice Kev! Would you keep the SLK? Seems to me that you have to pull up to the private landing strip in a sweet ride. R)

Well being caught up in the "older" (lol) category and liking the MB experience I'm happy to see the SL being mentioned as a replacement option --- everybody knows where I stand. Older bones love the comfort level of the SL and the younger feeling brain goes for the look and performance. But to each his own. Good hunting!!!

370z

hmm~ i am thinking of going for 370Z or G37 all wheel drive.

you get the power and handling and it doesn't cost 50K over.

and interior isn't great but i can live with it.

also the car value wise.... omg my slk 280 dropped like 20K within 2years.

need to save !

Ill be looking at a 55amg, possibly a used SL (non AMG), a porsche or maybe even a used r8. Depends on my situation when I decide to buy my next car.

Might go the opposite route and pick up an SUV as im into snowboarding + surfing... Currently I rely on friends with the SUVs but that might need to change in the future.

For now im content with the 350 and would prefer to purchase my first home before upgrading to a different car first.

That seems like a very wise strategy.

content with the 55 for now and will wait and see what the R172 will look like and the financial situation by then. Not so into the Porsche and don't see any car in this price range will be a better replacement for the 55..I am lucky that we have 3 other cars to serve different purpose, so no replacement plan yet.

I'm already in my 'next' ride, an SLK 200.... Still chuffed to bits with it.

I'm at home at the moment, so went in and out of work with the top down today. Nice and frosty this morning with glorious sunshine....

If money were no object I'd like to have an F430, they just look amazing and go about as well. I've only driven one a short distance, but I was taken around the track in one by an ex-F1 driver last year. Quite impressive it must be said. I just don't have that kind of cash to buy such a car.
