Had a SLK350 (R172) 45,000km and had no problems. Currently driving a 2017 SL400 (R231) and no problems yet.

Unfortunately, I don't monitor my fuel costs - I need it regardless of what it is costing me. I used the SLK to commute to work and seem to recall getting 8or9 L/100km with it. Driving my SL around locally it is about 11 and on the open road on long trips about 9.

Based on the cost of a 3 year service package I bought for my car and the cost of a recent service MB quoted (4 year oil change) for my wife's B class- there is not a significant difference in maintenance......YET ...hoping that the more modern ABC is more reliable than the old ones but I will buy an extended warranty if I still have the car when the 3 year warranty expires.

Just got back from a run to Ireland (1500 miles) and took note of my consumption for this thread. Got just under 31mph with very mixed driving speeds. They only have 95RON in Ireland and I could feel the difference - never thought about it before but the car is happy being back on a diet of BP Ultimate.

I am also very interested in peoples experience of the SL, especially those who have swapped from an SLK. I will be test driving an SL400 at the weekend. Not sure if it will be a bit too big. Some amazing discounts if you can afford new especially looking at the crazy prices MB Hull want for 2 year old examples.
Cheers, Mark
