Help! Newbie here, needing service manual.

Hello Forum. I’ve been driving German roadsters for about 25 years now. I just purchased a 2012 SLK350, R172 from an individual a few days ago. I have always purchased Bentley manuals in the past. I have spent a substantial amount of time today, trying to find a service manual for this car. Do they not exist?! For what it’s worth, I’m trying to take the right side outer grill piece out. The little LED light got bumped and pushed into the housing, and I want to snap it back out. Just want to make sure I do it without breaking anything. There are no external visible screws, as another thread in this form stated. I have no idea how to safely get it out. Do I have to remove it from underneath the vehicle? By removing lower pan? Thanks in advance!

Sean

no childers, no bentley, nada

There are no mb service manuals unless you buy access from Mercedes through their WIS workshop info system and epc electronic parts catalog here:

The OP has the non-AMG style bumper so will be slightly different to mine, although I never had a reason to “play with it” before. If it doesn’t unclip and there are no obvious fixings it may be a bumper off job or as a minimum, remove wheel and arch liner and/ undertray to access the clips/fixings from the back.

Thank you to everyone for the warm-welcomes! - I had a Porsche Boxster S for 8 years before buying the R172. The 986S was DIY dream, with lots of tech support, manuals etc. It looks like this car will involve more interaction with invaluable communities like this one. I'll try dropping the lower pan first, to get to the DRL led light. It's not a major thing, but I'm a stickler for things being as near-perfect as possible. I'll post up more pics, as I take them. PS - the car only has 28k miles.

Thank you Windinmyhair. I had read that thread yesterday. I think that is for an AMG style bumper. Mine has absolutely no external screws or even a place to get a tool in, as far as undoing clips etc. My next step, is to undo that side of the lower pan, and see what’s up there. I’ll report back after that. ?

Hello all, still on the service manual search odyssey. Jbanks, I've reached out to the MB WIS people, and haven't heard anything back. I'm thinking about purchasing a subsricption-based plan from "Alldatadiy" (no affiliation). They show that they have my '12 SLK350, in their database. I figured, for $24.95, I wouldn't be out too much. Has anyone had any experience with this company? It looks like they are now owned by Autozone.

Thanks!

Reaching out is one thing. But they just want your money :D
WIS has all one needs besides epc

Hello Jeff, All of my devices, iPads, desktop, phone, etc. are Apple. I think they want to send me a flash drive. I was curious as to whether it would work on my devices. I had emailed them about it. In other news, I'm STILL messing with the lower-grill removal, to fix the loose led light. I'm putting the SLK up on ramps tonight, and dropping the under-cover pan. It's been to cold lately, to hang out in the garage.
