Such a shame that MB interpreted the EU rules thus. The (Opel) / Vauxhall Insignia in the UK has a MPH dial but the digital speed display can be switched between MPH and KPH by the driver.
You are right that, for a R171 in the UK, the default (MB OEM) behaviour is for the lower MFD to be fixed at displaying km/h.

However, if this is changed using STAR (which I believe does involve it being set-up as though it's a car from elsewhere in Europe), then this can be switched... I leave my lower MFD displaying outside temp by default now. I can also switch my main speedo (and the lower MFD with it) between displaying mph and km/h (there's an indicator in the middle of the speedo that switches to indicate which is being displayed).

As far as I am aware, there's no downside to this change - everything else on my car continues to function as it should.

Sounds good, thanks again. I may look for a wheel or components in the mean time.

Both rear fog lights
Gallons in tank (I have no idea why that is not on by default)
Runflat (Smart/Dumb tire pressure monitor)

The main thing I really wanted was to get "M" mode enabled and I think we were missing a step, and I certainly can't fault him on it because he has a 6sp manual SLK, not an area he was used to poking around in.

Apparently something needs enabled in the "Central Gateway (CGW) & Electronic Selector Module (ESM)" We could not find the setting in one of them (I don't recall right now) and did enable that part. I think the issue might be that we needed to enable/add the 428 code, got me.
Anyway, the main reason I am posting is to give a big "Thank You" to "mchild" for going out of his way to contact me, and offer his time.

I like how you can see the volts in the MFD as well as the other toys like basically enabling track mode. - A facelifted AMG cluster can do this (the volts that is, along with oil temperature and the race timers)

Also from another screenshot I saw on this thread, there was mention of a trunk release, what is that? - The one on the key, possibly

Also, also,
I have a 2005 SLK350 with everything I know of except the sport package. Other than the true "M" mode, what else can I get enabled? I was thinking the both rear fog light option, I do use them occasionally on early morning commutes in Pittsburgh, and nobody here knows what 1 small bright red light means (at least they see it! but they think something is burnt out on the other side)
The gallons remaining would be cool, and the dumb rotational tire pressure would be cool as well. Once that is enabled, can you turn it off easily? - Yes, with DAS
