Thanks Jeff for prompting me!

Been around the site for a few years just browsing and watching what goes on as never really had need to ask anything.

I am a retired grey hair with a beard, perhaps not your average SLK driver (our other vehicle is a Yeti). However for all my driving life I have enjoyed owning a car that could be said to fall in the bracket of a sports car, okay not a real sports car but something with two seats, a top to fold down and is fun to drive.

My claim to fame is that I built my own aircraft, a Vans RV6 now sadly passed on to new people. It took me twelve years, ten months twenty seven days from first cut of metal to the first flight and for the time it was mine it was fantastic to fly.

Now our aspirations are more sedate as we enjoy cruising the canals in our 58 foot narrow boat and in between trips away I endeavour to play golf.

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

Hi Bobc, and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us! :)

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time. If you're interested in joining us sometime, just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there! There are also at least a couple of other new members in the Devon/Cornwall area that might be happy to meet up for a tea/coffee and chat some time. :tu:

There's a summary post that I maintain for all UK meets here, and links to examples and pictures from this year's past meets are available here.

Finally, we also recently started plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map

Thanks

Another one in Cornwall

Hi Bob,

Welcome to this Awesome Forum from Bude, Cornwall.
As you may have noticed the UK Members Map is pretty empty west of Bristol.:crying:
I'm also another 'oldie' - but age is just a number, right?
Retired, too - absolutely, and enjoying it, albeit generally more sedately these days (excluding the days out in the SLK/SLC, which keep the grin factor going.
No beard, not much hair either, but perhaps we could meet up for a coffee/chat sometime? Take that as a general invite to any other Devon Cornwall members.

Hello DaveR

My mother lives up your way and we keep up visits to her driving up mostly in SLK so we must meet up and who knows perhaps some other guys will join us.

Hello Guys - thanks for the warm welcome, proper job.

I am a bit awed by the motors people drive, some big stuff! Our 200 came out at the change over point to the R171. We like to think of our R170 as in with the 'classics' all stick and rudder, map and compass no frills or GPS.

We always felt our MG's and the Mazda's RX7 and MX5 as somehow having that little bit elevated driving experience over the ordinary man in the street. I was hooked on two door, two seaters top down cars after my uncle scared the s*** out of me when I was a nipper taking his Frog Eye Sprite for a leap over a humped back bridge!

For me things have to have wow factor and individuality and our SLK 200 has bags of it you can't help but feel like you have something special when you walk up to it. My Vans RV6 was the same, a tail wheel aircraft with a stunning shape and performance to match.

Another member in the UK South West who has a Yeti as the second car! My wife bought hers (2.0 DSG 4x4) from Indian Queens 4 years ago and is still totally in love with it! I have to say that I enjoy driving it as well - but now that the SLC is here I think that she'll want to share the driving around a bit more.

Thanks Gnomeface

Yeti is also 2.0 DSG 4x4 with a Panoramic Sun Roof a 2013 classic model in Muscadvado and we sourced him entirely over the Internet from a dealer in the New Forest, drove up in the Freelander came back in the Yeti and so far a great vehicle and a good drive. Do you also subscribe to Yetiownersclub.co.uk?

Maybe meet up sometime ......
