So I built me a new 13 SL.Rolled it up from only $105k to $133k.
Decided to forgo the 2GB SD card for $49,however ( I am cheap and have a few @$5 each in a drawer-gone to 16GB for $15 ,these days).
Look, my 03 SLK32 does 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and is probably worth $15,000.
This great new beast does it in 4.5 seconds.

Point made,
Adrian

But your car doesn't have that "New Car " smell.

That's got to be worth something !

But seriously, I haven't purchased a new car in 25 years. IMHO there are probably advantages to new cars, and especially one that is as expensive to repair as a Mercedes. If your income level is high enough it probably makes a lot of sense to go new. If I weren't so cheap I'd love to do it - if just to take advantage of the Euro Delivery option !

I buy only new for my DDs. I'll go used for my toys. Theres just something about having a new unmolested all yours car thats addicting. Any scratch is YOUR scratch. Any ding is YOUR ding. Anything that breaks is your fault. YOU know what oil you used. YOU know what components you did... plus you know its going to last. Face it, my SLK 320 isnt going to last me another 10 years, but a new one might. I have to deal with putting in an aftermarket stereo... and now my cylinders need to be rebuilt... and thats all a pain for a DD.

Now for those of us who choose to buy older cars, we are saying "its worth it". "its worth saving 100k not to have to deal with that stuff", but others its not. For a truck for example, its NOT worth 10k to me to buy a used truck that may have problems, or that I can't vouch for. Not worth it one bit. I dont have the time to deal with the hassle.

20 years ago however I would have told you differently. Back then I only got paid about $25 an hour, so if I could spend 4 hours to save $500 I'd do it. Today, I wouldnt. My time is more valuable than the hassle.

If I made over 500k a year I wouldnt be driving an 01 SLK 320. If I made under 100k a year I might be willing to drive an 05 F150 however. It all depends on what the time and hassle is worth to you.

:soap:

And one more aside- I paid over MSRP to buy my 2010 camaro SS before anyone else (had one of the first). To me, it was worth every penny to have a new car no one else had on the road. I loved it and have no regrets... Something else I NEVER would have done 20 years ago, and I would have ripped on someone who did so saying, "Why not just wait 6 months and save a few k"- Because money is worth a different amount to a different person!
