Just imported a 2001 SLK320 from Japan. Needs a couple lighting fixes to pass the out of province inspection so while I'm waiting for parts I'm fixing up the peeling interior paint. Have already found lots of useful information on this forum.

Can't wait to get this baby on the road, assuming my wife lets me drive it:) I sold her on the idea of purchasing this car using the pretense of it being her vehicle. That may have been a mistake.

Well, inspection passed, vehicle insured and registered - under my wife's name :crying: and on the road. Since a vehicle must be 15 years old to import from Japan to Canada, this SLK320 would be one of the first.

This was my first experience importing a car and it went very well. I used an awesome exporter, Mark at Brave Auto International. Following his advise for payment and customs brokerage, the transaction and delivery was flawless.

The out-of-province inspection found the following deficiencies which I corrected for under $250...

-No DRL's - used an inline fuse to wire up the fog lights
-No side marker lights - replaced turn signal sockets with dual filament ones
-Incorrect driver side headlight lens - swapped with used lens
-No front amber side reflectors - Stuck on a couple, for now

To finish things up I...

-Replaced after market stereo (wrong FM range) with plug & play Blaupunkt
-Repainted interior plastic with Sem Color Coat
-Replaced rattily secondary cats with pipe

Weather looks sunny this long weekend on southern Vancouver Island so we're hitting the road!
