Hey all,

Each year, I try to attend several track events. I usually go out with NASA due to it's organization and cost. Initial cost is $40 for the annual membership plus a cost of $159-179 for a 1 day event consisting of (4-7) 20 min sessions. In addition, there's free instruction both in-car and in a classroom setting.

Well, NASA just introduced a new program called Hyperdrive. It is designed to give someone the taste of driving on a road course without a $200 commitment. In fact, it only costs $49. It comes with everything as normal except there is only 1 20 minute session with an instructor.

I've enjoyed these HPDE programs with NASA for the last few years. If you live in Northern California, I highly recommend you give it a try. I'll be out there with on March 8th. I hope to see you too!

"HYPERDRIVES:
NASA Hyperdrive is a way for a non-members to experience HPDE 1 (with an instructor), without having to commit to an entire event. Hyperdrives are one 20-minutes session, on track, at speed, with an instructor riding in the passenger seat. Convertibles need roll bars. All drivers must be 18 years. Helmets and seatbelts are required. Passengers other than the instructor are not permitted. Passing is permitted only on straight sections of the track and with permission or direction of the instructor."

PS. In case you're wondering, the SLK is allowed on the track with the top up. No additional roll bars are needed.

I think you may have missed my "PS" comment. The factory roll bars are adequate with NASA. I have driven with the top up at both Thunderhill and Infineon (Sears Point). In fact, I've even driven top down once at Thunderhill and no one said anything. Before even attempting to enter the event, I had several conversations with the organizers to ensure I could drive the SLK without modification. It was approved well in advance... something that can not be said of the Corvette converts.

BTW, it has been my experience that top up works best at it provided a little more rear downforce. By contrast, top down seems to work best at an Autocross where speeds are relatively low.

With the 32, the performance is better with the top up, but it's comfortable with the top down. I sit strait up on the track and my helmet does wedge against the head liner.

Carlos, I've had the paperwork on my desk for a couple weeks, thanks for reminding me.
