I ordered two of these from mercedesparts.com for $39 each and just got them delivered by UPS today. Unfortunately, I took the car to the dealer Monday for a 410 error code and they gave me an estimate of $3,700+ to replace the secondary air pump, remove the manifold to replace the valve that is supposed to open and close with the air pump, and replace pads and rotor on all four wheels. Car had 54K miles.

After getting their diagnosis, I told them not to bother and took it next door to the Hyundai Dealer and traded it on a new Sonota Hybrid that is pretty much a land yacht that gets 37 combined MPG on regular unleaded as opposed to the 21 combined MPG for the 280SLK on unleaded premium. This should save me about $1,400 a year on gas.

The short story is if I ship these back to mercedesparts.com, I have to pay shipping back to them and they charge me a 20% restocking fee. If anyone here is interested in them I will let you have them for $70 for the two, shipped anywhere in the US. If no interest, I will return them to mercedesparts.com withing their 30 day return constraints.

Parts numbers are A 171 795 02 55 and A 171 795 01 55. One is left side and the other is right side. Theses are OEM Mercedes parts that were shipped to me last week by Mercedes Benz of Annapolis, MD.

I will can send you an invoice through paypal if needed.

PM me or call me at (904)200-1552 if interested, otherwise they go back. There is a well document self install procedure (with pictures) in one of the roof pillar replacement threads.

Thanks!

It looks like my tenure on the SLK forum is going to be a short one. I thought I would have to pry the SLK from my wifes cold, dead fingers, but she seems okay with the trade. And I had just got the AMG wheels back from being repainted, milled and clearcoated! Car looked amazing (except for the roof pillars) in and out, and I got 18K on trade-in leaving them to deal with the check engine light issue, brakes and roof pillars.

Hey Coach,
Let us know how things go on this. Mine need replacing as well, but I haven't decided which way to go. I'm assuming that you're read through the various threads on here that show ways to get at this common R171 problem, replace them, cover them with vinyl/carbon fiber, paint them, sand, polish, & refinish them.

Take Pics !
