Been a member for some time. My first intro to an SLK was at a rodeo in Chicago put on by MBUSA. The test drive of the 2007 SLK350 (sic) caught my interest. It handled like my 2006 Porsche 944T, but without some of the negatives. I was hooked. In 2013 I found a silver 2009 SLK55 with 18k. Picked it up at a dealer in Houston. The ride back to Chicago let me know that this wasn't going to replace the S430 for long point to point road trips. The handling was great, so I got off the Interstate.
The car has been my main summer driver since. Changed out the tires to Firestone Indy 500s, and been amazed by the added stabilized performance.
I have previously had a 2001 S430, and still have a 2004 S430, 2009 SLK55, 2010 E550 and 2016 S63. The 550 is my wife's. The SLK55 is a summer car, the S430 a winter car and the S63 for whenever I feel like wiping almost anything else off the road.
I perform very little work on my own as my schedule used to prohibit it. Now, my mechanical skills are pretty rusty, so I stick to driving.
