Hello all, thought I'd make the title a bit different, did I manage it?
Not had my SLK 350 very long, bought s/h locally, it's 2007 with 90K miles on the clock and has obviously been well looked after its whole life... until I got it! No, I'm actually the best person to buy a car from as I look after them like babies and spend a fortune on them and then when all is right, I get bored and sell them at a magnificent loss!
It had received no paintwork at all prior to my ownership and then, on the day of purchase, the dealer drove into a low bollard, even though I could hear the warning thing going mad inside the car, he, apparently, couldn't! Much damage to the driver's side front bumper, but no broken glass or sensors and he moved heaven and earth to get the car repaired properly in double-quick time - 5 days.
Though I have only just signed up, I have lurked/used the forum several times already for information on things like pollen filters (which I just changed - obviously not included in MB full-service history as it was disgusting!), air filters and so on. Even though it had been serviced, I like to check, because I am paranoid and having been involved in the motor trade, I am aware how easily things that should be done, and indeed, are said to have been done, get forgotten to actually be/get done!
It did have a tiny bit of bubbling on the very inside edge of the rear wheel arches, about 2.5mm so I sanded it back to pure metal, Kurust. etch primed and then painted. Oh and then Waxoyl over the lot. Rust now you bugger!
Just had to buy a battery as the car declined my invitation to start this morning. It was a tad sluggish the other day and so the thought of a battery was planted in my head and today after faffing with jump packs etc, I trekked to the nearest Halfords and paid a very nice lady to fit my battery as I am far too idle to actually do it myself! Actually, I am a sickly old gimmer with a crumbling spine and the mere thought of lifting a battery makes me break out in slipped discs etc!
With the good old trade car, £88 all in. So not too bad?
Anyway, I'm sure I'll pester you all for knowledge/tips/help in the very soon future. Oh yeah, where can I get some new headlights from? Mine have crazed at the very top which won't polish out.
