DeLorean to SLK
I am Jan (or John in English), living in Belgium, Europe.
For 12 years I owned a DeLorean with passion. It is a car most of us know mostly because of its appearance in the Back to the future films. I was proud to have one and it was truely in a showroom new condition. I drove it to DeLorean events as far as Sweden and Ireland. But after 12 years it was tme to let it go. But it was mostly based upon low emission zones created here in Belgium.
Entering the wrong road could cost 350€. Not being able to drive where and when I want this car lead me into letting the DeLorean go.
But I did want a fun car that is still allowed to drive everywhere, not fearing environmentalists will take my toy away.
A friend and fellow DeLorean owner has an SLK and expressed more often how fun they are to drive. I did like its apearance so I have been searching for one no more than 8 yrs old. I looked at a lot of cars online and went to see 3 cars before I bought this SLK200
So I found this June 2012 SLk at a used Mercedes car store. Not knowing much about cars I used my knowledge I got from tv shows like Whealer dealers. Everthing incl the engine bay is very clean and under the trunk carpet is no trace of welding, rust or damage. Nothing sounded wrong and drove very nice. I have a year warranty.
The day after I went to get the car I made an appointment at a Mercedes dealership to get the car checked out. They reported a car in excellent condition an extremely clean, almost like it never saw any rain. I got a print of its service too, the last one 800km ago. It has always been served at a Mercedes dealership. The only thing I should do next year is replace its tires.
It runs very good. And after a few drives the fun factor only increased for me.
It is a funcar so I will only drive it in weekends, dry weather and non-winter months.
The DeLorean community is an increadible great group of people. I plan to still join them at events, only at the back of the group with my SLK
I hope that I made the right decision. I tend to take good care of this car. I have some ideas of some minor changes I want to do, more posts in ths forum.
The car has GPS, intelligent lighting, airscarf, parking sensors,... I see I can insert 6CD’s but I think there is one jammed in there I cannot insert a disk. That is the only negative remark I can make.
Best regards from Belgium
