I am one of those people that joined asked a few questions then dropped out again, for that I apologise.
Since I purchased my car in November 2017 it has been a very stressful year, however not due to the car.
In February I decided to close my shop and just retire, I have had 50 years uninterrupted working so it was time to take things easy.
Things were going wrong with the car and my first thought was expense, how wrong was I?
The door check strap drivers side broke, knocking the window out of alignment and stopped the roof from working. It costs £33 from a Mercedes dealer for the part and it was fitted by my friend in 40 minutes, while he was there he removed the underside of the steering wheel to access the seat relay, £29 later and the seats all work fine.
I decided to put it in for it's MOT to see how much needed doing to it, the answer was nothing it sailed through at £54 with a few advisories front wheel bearing slight play (same as last year) tyres wearing on outer edge, still legal and the rubber mounts from the jacking points missing.
Nevertheless 13 months MOT on it now till September 27th 2019
Then the prop-shaft centre bearing went, making a rumbling sound on acceleration, new part £30 all from Mercedes main dealer, it is in the garage today being fitted as it is a ramp job and I don't have access to that. I am still awaiting the cost of that (tension)
I have had some good summer days with the car though, it drives like a dream. Next up is the bodywork, it seriously needs treatment now for rust.
I will try not to leave it too long with interacting again :)

Tough cookies these 170s.
Like any older car they have issues, but most can be resolved.
Did you know that MB dealers offer reduced rates for labour on cars of this age?
If you join the MBclub you get parts discount at some dealers.

I'm usually pleasantly surprised by the cost of most mechanical and electrical bits for the SLK's

A plastic trim pad for the door handle, the size of a matchbox cost £8 though.

And the plastic trim over the middle speaker over the armrest was nearly £30 ( replaced because someone had folded the rubber windbreaker holder over and it was creased, just being OCD! :) )

but a cam actuator for my sons 350 was a measly £45.
