Sounds like you are heading in the right direction with the roof.
Also, consider your battery.
The SLK needs a perfect battery.
Good, is not good enough.
Try to only use it with the engine running.
Is it any better?
Reason I suspect battery condition: It's working intermittently & looks to be when you start out.
The fact that it is ok after 10 mins driving & then ok all day long? Points to battery condition.
Couple of notes on the battery.
A brand new, fully charged battery can discharge after just 3 weeks standing.
An old battery can fully charge, but may not hold the charge for as long as a new battery.
The roof uses a lot of power.
We've just hit spring, using heaters, heated seats etc will have used power.
