I bought my wife an SLK 200 in 2007 which we still have, she had always wanted a Mercedes car.
I recently looked at a replacement SLK for her but she does not like any of the newer models at all!, says her car is the best looking model. (that's good will save me some money
So I will just have to keep it looking good and well maintained, I do all the required servicing and repairs, not many repairs in the ten years though, we had a broken glass in the LH fog light, two new front tyres and just this week I had to replace the rear suspension springs, the RH side had broken a small piece off the bottom end of the coil. I only found it by taking the wheel of and closely inspecting in the lower spring cup with a torch, the car was still sitting level so gave no indication of the problem other than a 'Twang' when going over a large speed bump.
I have also repaired the exhaust hangers and the 'Bracelet Clamp' across the two sections of exhaust pipes that feed the rear silencers, the hanger metal is carbon steel tube welded to SS exhaust pipe, this produces localised Electrolytic corrosion in the Carbon steel at the weld, not good engineering or is it done to produce eventual programmed repair work?? Any how I have made a better job of it, see picture.
I have been a keen car DIY er for many years, my own car was a Reliant Scimitar SE5A for nearly 35 years, I was forced to sell it and buy something that did not require all my time looking after it
I was sad to see it go but went to someone younger and and enthusiastic. (I am 73 years young
) and still like fixing cars. That is the reason I joined here.
Well I am beginning to get the hang of using this website so will try and add further comments and pictures as well as any questions.
