New guy here
My name is JJ and I tripped over this site looking for help with some issues my 'new' used 1999 MB SLK230. Stuck around and decided to join as it seems like this place is full of great tips and advice. About three months ago, I moved to Sicily and lucked out and bought my car from a guy I knew that was just leaving the island. Everyone at work who knew him says he restored it from pretty rough shape. By the time he left, everyone was eager to find out who was going to 'inherit' it. Lucky me! First time owner of a supercharged, convertible anything, much less a Mercedes!
Fast forward to now - about a month ago, I accidentally locked my ONLY key in the trunk <insert your hilarious laughter here>. Luckily, my close friend was able to get into the cabin, pop the hood and disconnect the battery. Once he reconnected the battery, it reset the power locks to include the trunk lock. Bam, key retrieved. The next morning upon leaving home, the car jerked its way thru the gears, as if I had a fuel delivery problem. I was at a loss since it's my only vehicle..didn't know what to think, had to keep driving. After my shift at work that day I noticed that things had calmed down a bit. The jerking, I think, was caused by some kind of supercharger bypass malfunction. The supercharger bypass still isn't performing like it should, but it's driveable. Seems the bypass activates around 3300rpm and then abruptly gives up at around 4500rpm :/
So there it is - the reason that ultimately brought me here. The more I looked around for an answer to my problem, I noticed how helpful folks here seem to be. I'm hoping my luck holds out and perhaps someone here can point me in a direction that will lead me to a fix, because for as much work as the previous owner put into this car - it'd be a shame to have it all go to waste...
Anyways, hope to maybe meet some locals, if there are any. If not, maybe I can be of some help in another way. Thanks!
