In 1969 my first car was a 1965 Lotus Cortina, it was an excellent, simple but very capable vehicle. Since then I have travelled considerably and owned many cars from mundane to highly spirited. My favourite was always a 1972 Lotus Elan +2s/130 - incredibly simple but totally consuming by its performance and unpredictable reliability. More recently family and work commitments had become a priority. My son now is approaching the need for his first vehicle and the search led us to a vehicle which was parked next to one of the 2 cars I (we) are now considering, (both candidates being mid 2000s SLKs). The revelation that this was a vehicle we both could enjoy and would provide my son with an opportunity to start his driving life in the same non-conforming way I had. It would also provide me with an avenue back to driving for more reasons than just getting from A to B.

When the winter abates and I am able to progress my search from looking to trying, I will post more.

Options:

2006 SLK280, simply equipped, 49K miles
2005 SLK350, AMG package and loaded to the gills, 73K miles

Observations and advice will be invaluable.

Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
