Escort Radar & Laser

hi,

It's Steve Thomas from Escort Radar & Laser. I just wanted to say thanks for such a great time in Las Vegas at the SLK World 2009 Retreat.

Since it is hard for me to check a zillion different email accounts, feel free to contact me at work: [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

Hope to see you at the next big event. Hats off to Ken, Stacy, and Pam!

I would be interested in one, but not sure where to put it in a California car. Also, which one is the best choice for us?

I could have used one on our drive back from Vegas. Was following a Buick going around 80 and came to a slower car. He passed and I had to wait a bit longer for an open area. I had just passed further down the road at about 95 and was slowing down for a corner, when I saw the Buick pulled over by one of Nevada's finest. I just got lucky that there was not an area that I could have passed along with him. So now an Escort is on my short list of purchases for the SLK.

Escort isn't a 'typical' sponsor, but have been very generous in flying Steve to Vegas to speak on radar technology at their own expense during out Tech Session and donating a 9500ix which is worth $500. Steve won't be regularly on the site, so if you are interested or have questions email him and tell him you are with SLKWorld and he will help you out.

Another Thank you to Steve Thomas of Escort Radar and his "connections" to a couple of places (e.g. Tao and Lavo) where VIP status were rendered to SLKWorld members and cover charges waived by saying the passphrase

Thanks for all the info from this weekend Steve.

As an owner of the Escort 9500ix, and as the SoCal caravan up to Vegas saw first hand, this detector is awesome. Spotted 7 cops on the trip up. No tickets for any of us.

I hardwired mine into my SLK. It fits perfectly behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side. It is in the highest point on the windshield and the gps isn't blocked. The passenger visor also has clearance to fold down. The wire is completely hidden and runs down the inside of the A-pillar and into the fuse box on the driver side. You can still unplug the detector and stow it or take it with you. Positioned like this, it also doesn't block your view at all.

Only thing I wish is that it came with a powercord for the wall to do updates. Right now it requires that you take a laptop to your car to do the database update. If you don't have a laptop, then you need to purchase a 12v converter to plug into the wall. For a $500 product, a $2 cable would have been nice to have included.

Steve's presentation's were great, to the point, and most importantly, spoke to what you can expect and not expect from a radar detector...

9500ci saved my bacon a number of times going up, and three times today from AZ and TX's finest.

I also understand that Escort is putting together their first "direct group purchase" for SLKWorld, so all y'all chomping at the bit to grab one, hold tight and let's see what Steve can come up with.....

(FYI - both ci and ix can be hardwired (well, no choice with the ci) to mute the radio in the SLK when the alarm goes off. That's critical to me, as I notice the music muting as much or more than the alarm itself with the top down..)

ummm....buying an escort? Shouldn't you be renting one?

Buying one implies commitment. I think that's defined as marriage.

I know.....
I'm going to burn in hell for that one, but I'm ok with it, as long as it's dry heat

I think it would be cool if something like the escort could have a battery ? That way you could just charge it up each day and not have to worry about power going to it (my drives are not that long), but perhaps to detect these are just WAYYY too powerful and that is why no one does a battery ?

Ditto on Steve's presentation at the Tech session at Fletcher Jones of Las Vegas.

Noticed the laser jammer set-up on your ride John (UK-C200) and the Escort's set up is much less observable than the competition.

There are quite a few radar detectors on the market that can be charged with a battery...they are really not meant for hardcore users, and as such usually come with far fewer functions. Really, what's wrong with just plugging it in? Battery powered detector is just another thing that i would forget to charge.

Thanks. I Just thought to not have to deal with wires it could be tucked away nicely then. Guess it doesn't make sense though for this type of device.

It is really easy to wire it in so the wires are hidden. Took me less than half an hour to do it.

I'll get a picture of how I have it mounted and where the wire goes.
