Originally aired in 1988 on British television, this docuseries tells the history of the Grand Prix car from 1945-1965, starting with the very first Formula 1 GPs held after the end of WW2. Split here into six roughly eight-minute clips, the ~50 minute film begins with a slow, low, dramatic pan of the camera across a bonnet-less Alfa 158 accompanied by this narration: “The grand prix car, like a fighter aircraft, represents the pinnacle of the technology of its time, and that of the country of origin. For a decade following the second world war, Italian cars were supreme.” Don’t worry, the Germans and Brits get their spot in the limelight too, detailed with the same wonderful mix of high-quality period film footage, sound, and engineering detail.

Some great old clips here
