SLK Spotting Question

I am just wondering what the SLK Spotting Frequencies are around your area. When I first wanted and got this car I swear I never saw any of them around my area, which was one of the major appeals to the car, I like having something a little rare :).

Now that I have one, it seems like I see them more and more... Maybe because I am more alert about seeing and noticing them?? Anyways just wondering what it is like for everyone else.

I probably see an 1-2 R170's every other week. The R171, I probably see one every 2-3 weeks or so. In fact I saw a white one this weekend, very clean, with what looked to be an 8000 or maybe 12000k xenon kit, that's what prompted me to think about this...

Living in Oregon I do not see a lot of SLK's on the road. Or at least not in my area. I would say maybe 1 a week and it is almost always the same one. In the winter time I rarly see one on the road at all. There are more Z4's in this area for sure.

Dave, good point about the Z4's. Those seem to be a dime a dozen here too, I see them all the time.

Also on a note about seeing the same car, my numbers are based on seeing different models/owners (as far as I can tell). There is one silver SLK280/350 (I can never tell because the intersection setup doesn't allow me to get a good angle of sight on it without causing some sort of accident) that I see almost everyday after work, we must both leave work a little early to beat the traffic, because we always pull up to this one intersection at the same time almost all the time :)

Not sure if this person is on the site or not, but I see this person at the intersection of Kildaire Farm Road and Cary Parkway all the time, if you're on here let me know, I'd love to check out your car sometime...

I rarely see SLKs in or around NYC. I probably see more SLs, Z4, and almost everyday I see several 3 series hard top convertible.

Every time we see an SLK in NYC they are usually 280s. I saw one SLK55 going across an intersection. I waived, but they didn't waive back.

I spend most of the week in Cleveland though, and see plenty of Audi TT roadsters, but again very few SLKs. The one time I saw an SLK in the last 3 years, it was a 280 without the AMG sport package. In my client's office park, there is a pair of old guys who appear to come in with similar Continental GTs, SL55s, or more recently I saw one of them in an Audi R8.

I see enough SLKs in this area - at work alone there is 5 or 6 ranging from 230 - 55. That being said I see just as many porsches, far more 350z's and Vettes, and so on. From what I can tell I have the only Black slk 350 at my work (i put slk because theres half a dozen black 350z), but there is a black 280 and a silver 350. Plus a few of higher or lower models.

I don't think the SLK is what you could consider a 'rare' car - but in my experience its just as common as the porsches.

^^ Oh yeah, I definitely don't think the SLK is rare in any sense production wise... I was just saying it has seemed rare to my area, which I felt was odd considering I live in a decent sized city... That was the point of the thread, to see how it was in other areas...

Oddly enough I've seen 3 Lamborghini's and only one SLK this week...

Same here - In London, I see more Ferrari's, Lambo, and every Porsche know to man. I think I actually see more SL's the SLK's - granted most are SL350's, but still....

Also - today I saw a 525d with M badges! The jackass didn't even change out the exhaust, so it had the "standard" one side, two small downturned diesel pipes!

:tu:I see two SLKs in my garage everyday. However, I don't see many in the central Virginia are where I live. It's not uncommon that I see several different SLK (R170s) almost every day. There are at least two other SLKs (R171s) in this immediate area. One might reside two houses down from where I live. I seldom see it, but could be garaged. We'll see more SLKs as the prices for used R170s and R171s continue to decline. They're becoming affordable for many middle income people. Still, I'd say, fairly exclusive for this area. That's good for us and I enjoy the looks.

Athens, Greece is packed with SLKs, Boxsters and 911s.
you don't get to see so many SLs on the streets though...

however, i saw two SLRs (both in silver with Greek plates) parked right in front of my office the other day. although i am not a big fan, i have to admit they looked awesome...

i usually park my SLK next to an anthracite DB9, which i also start to like a lot...

In northern jersey I see an slk almost three times a week. Yet still see SLs daily. My area also has another copper designo 320 because my stealership oredered up two. The other family is from my area and usually the husband drives it but last time i saw it the wife had it.... (mine has the projectors)

I still don't see that many around my area, it's nice and sunny here so I assume I would see it more often but I don't, r170 is everywhere though.

I'm about the same I've only seen 2 on the road in the past couple weeks that I've owned my 05 350.

I don't count the one house I always pass with one in the driveway. I've seen the slk in the driveway ever since I had my TT and watched them trade their TT for a SLK that was about 3 years ago so I guess they're still happy with the slk because It still sits in the driveway.
Which I think is one of the reasons I even considered the SLK I've always considered the MB to be an old peoples car :)

Me on the other hand have had the TT, Mini cooper, G35, M3, Solstice GXP and now the 350 I should have just went from the TT to the 350 I would have saved a lot of money :(

I swear I see at least 5 SLKS a day. There are about 3 in my neighborhood area, typically older models. Theres also about 6-8 SLKS at work but I rarley see more then a few of them each day.

Today on my short commute here I saw 3 SLKS, 2 with the tops down 1 with it up - not sure if theyre the same ones I see daily at work or around my home but they were headed in opposite directions as me so probably not.

Edit: Also noticed a typo up top where it says "I've Spotted a SLK Enter a repy here if you spot an SLK on your travels and are interested if its a member. Enter all details you know about the car (not licinse plate) colour, model, any noticable mods, rough location and time, date.(not licinse plate)"

This thing about noticing your own kind of car started long time ago for me. And in ten years of driving Vettes, I can hardly remember more than one or two times when another Vette driver didn't wave back; I haven't found out yet whether SLKers are the same way. This may take awhile, because the area is filthy with Vettes but there are far fewer SLKs.

I do know that every biker waves back whether they are riding an actual Hog or a lookalike.

Yep a little job for the mods I think. The same post turned up in another thread....

As for SLK frequency, I don't see as many here in Hamburg as I see Porsches, but I probably see at least 3 or 4 SLKs each day. There's a black de-badged R171 near where I live and two black R170's regularly parked on the street in the neighbourhood.

Besides my own, I have so far only seen one other SLK in Palladium Silver though and that was here. I've not seen another one in the UK yet.
