As I parked La Bęte in the garage after driving home from work, I was thinking about getting into some comfortable clothes and having a G&T on the deck. A very pleasant 78ş and low humidity awaited.
"Not so fast" was my greeting as I walked into the house.
"What?" I asked.
"Let me grab my purse. We need to go pick-up the wine."
Two thoughts entered my head. The case of wine we had ordered during the wine dinner was ready for pick-up and why hadn't my Lady already picked it up?
Before I could say anything, she stated "We will take La Bęte".
Oh, that changes everything. It is about a 40min drive to the Café des Amis and about half of that is on a lovely, winding back road.
Once we arrived, we decided to enjoy dinner as well. While sitting out on the deck, my Lady stated that the woman that just walked inside to pickup some wine was driving a Mercedes. I turned to look and recognize the silver SLK230 from Sunday. Before my Lady could say anything else, I was up and inside to talk with the person.
It is a 1998 SLK 230 Kompressor that she had bought in 2005. She liked the car, but is thinking of getting something more practical. We chatted for a bit, then she stated that some of the interior panels were peeling. I made the case for her to checkout SLKWorld, as there have been several discussions on just that issue. We spoke for a few minutes more, then she left carrying her precious cargo.
We finished dinner and drove home. On that lovely, winding road, we passed a car sitting on its top, clearly having failed to negotiate a particularly challenging curve. All appeared to be okay, so we continued on to home.
I knew I should have stood up and yelled "Who owns the SLK?".
My wine rack is now a bit healthier
