Moriomoto HID Elite Kit Arrived/Thoughts

Today I received my Moriomoto HID Elite Kit from the RetroFit Source.

First impressions were great! The packaging is phenomenal! The quality of the products seem high quality.

However, I opened up the ballast and I noticed on the bottom of both ballast that they look scratched up as if they were returns... Also on the bottom are two holes that are differ from both ballast which are concerning. I have attached some side by side comparisons and close ups of both ballasts let me know what you all think...

I would contact the vendor if you’re really concerned about them being used. Variations in packaging however does not have me so concerned because there are different versions.

I’m more concerned about the two little holes on the bottoms. They looked silicones up and on one the silicon is missing if you look carefully at the photos you can see what I mean.

Update: I sent The RetroFit Source an email asking to exchange the ballast as I don’t feel comfortable with these ballast as they don’t appear to be new. I’ll keep this posted.

As I mentioned I would keep this post updated through my journey of installing a HIDs in my SLK/R171. First off I’m furious. The RetroFit Source are garbage at customer service!

They decided it’s cool to send me ballast that look “used” and I send them emails asking for an exchange. They grant the exchange and I mail them my ballast. According to the tracking my package was delivered Monday 5/20/2019. I email them asking if they indeed received my ballast and when my exchange will be sent. The jerk off Neil told me I have to wait for them to “inspect” the ballast and then I’ll get notified of their decision. First off Neil how about inspecting your damn product before mailing junk to your customers. Well it took until today Thursday 5/23/2019 to inform me that my exchange has been accepted and my account has been credited for the product. Well guess what?! I don’t have a damn account with TRS I checked out through their Guest PayPal portal. I am so sick of having to waste my valuable time dealing with them. I don’t understand why the hell the can’t just send me a new pair of ballast that are actually “NEW”! I’ll be calling them tomorrow directly as I’m pissed. I couldn’t imagine trying to file a warranty with them!

One side down another to go.
Low beams = Morimoto XB Elite 5500k
High Beams = Philips RacingVision 150%
Parking light = LED 6000k
Turn Signal = GP Thunder Chrome Amber
Fog Lights = Philips DiamondVision 5000k+

Tip: I mounted my ballast underneath the headlights where the OEM one would be. There aren’t any screw holes so I used industrial strength Velcro in the middle of the ballast and then used permanent 3M double-sided outdoor mounting tape on the sides of the ballast. (Make sure to clean surface with rubbing alcohol) Looks very professional!
