Seicane head unit pictures

Hello folks, following interest in my Seicane installation, I have uploaded a few screenshots. For those considering a replacement for the original gear and want an adventure here is a brief overview. I have had the unit about 3 months now and got to know it. So far it hasn't put a foot wrong and it replaces a Dynavin N6 which went kaput after 2 years. With little support from the UK supplier or Dynavin Germany I decided to change to Seicane. Dynavin were looking for about 150 for a new main board or 750 for a new N7.

I opted nervously for the Seicane at half the price on the basis that if I was likely to opt for uncertain overseas after sales service I didn't mind the cost of the Seicane. Anyway, like I said, so far it has been good as gold. Unlike the European Dynavin, this unit has an Android based operating system so benefits from lots of apps including TorquePro etc. It also has built in wifi and can hotspot to your phone (useful for live traffic) or you can even buy a sim card adaptor. Seicane to a more traditional model but I decided to go buttonless with the larger screen since most of the essentials are on the steering wheel. In fact the screen is 9 inches diagonally and very clear with good colours.

Fitting with the built in amp and Audio 20 ought to be a doddle. I had the HK and basically removed the lot and put in a 6 channel power amp. Most complicated thing here was working my way around the MB wiring loom. All manor of fun and games here which I won't go into too much detail here other than to say that I have wired the door subwoofers on channels 5 & 6 so I still get stereo bass while the rear centre speakers only have one +&- wire so I split them and ran a new wire from the passenger facing speaker and connected those speakers to channels 3 & 4 and configured it so now I have middle driver facing speaker wired left channel and rear drivers side speaker right channel. Sounds complicated but actually you get amazing stereo definition. This is for RHD, LHD will be the other way around I guess. Anyway, you probably get the gist!

Seicane offer all manner of addons including dash cam, DAB+, rear camera, TV etc etc. I have the DAB+ and dash cam which at 30 each is cheap as chips and you can playback dash cam footage thru the unit. Don't really need TV if you got web tv. I used my original Dynavin rear camera which was basically plug and play.

Built in apps are pretty good. The built in IGO Nextgen in a constant source of mystery and altho the UI is a bit complicated, it is pretty darn good. I eventually managed to download all my POI's and maps and there are no charges for traffic, safety cameras (you can download from GPS world). Steering wheel works volume, phone and track on the native music player. I downloaded an excellent home screen launcher which pretty much ticks all the boxes by having what you need where you want it.

Anyway, here are lots of pics!

Hi,
I ordered the same head unit 3 weeks ago and it arrived this morning
Did you get an external mic supplied with yours?
I can not see one in my kit so I was wondering if it came as standard, if it was an extra or if it is not available?
Thanks

PS Guess what I will be doing tomorrow

No mic with mine either. I used my old Dynavin mic which seems to work ok. Be interesting to compare notes once your up and running!

Please keep this updated, I am looking to go this route in the near future as the stand alone ECU I am looking at works with android, so I could have it all right on the radio. Slick! Can you get to the google play store through it?

Yep, Google play works thru WiFi or hotspot to your phone on the move and with most apps I have found. I have put a Netgear hub extender near garage. Forgot to mention, the native DAB (if you use it) is buggy. The one in my pics is DAB+Z and is ace. Has station logos and favourites. Free app!

Hi Osi,
Sure I will let you know how mine goes, great write up though and lots of great advice and pics!

One more question......for the DAB Aerial, did you mount it on the wind screen or did you manage to find somewhere more discreet to position it?

Thank you

Windscreen. Used one of those non drill stick on types and it works fine. Would like a sharkfin centre above windscreen but can't muster the nerve to drill!

Install Update

On the whole the install went very well and much more smoothly than I anticipated.
The unit fits very well and the only issue was a bit of fettling on the catches on the top of the lock/unlock car button assembly. (The hooks on the Head unit that secure the assembly with the lock/unlock car buttons to the head unit were slightly too wide apart and I had to carefully trim the top of the assembly to make it fit back in with the new head unit.)

The unit looks fantastic and all the features appear to work, including the steering wheel buttons! (This includes the phone buttons which I have never had the pleasure of being able to use before in my car!)

I have installed the DAB Z App as suggested by Osi and this looks and works really well.
I am still getting to grips with all the other features but the standard aps are more than enough to do the job for now.

The only issue I have with the unit is that the screen does not quite line up with the surround properly and it clips the bottom of the display. It still functions OK but when using the keyboard the bottom row of keys are smaller than they should be and there is a small black Gap at the top of the display. (See Pics)

I have contacted Seicane on this matter but their response is that this is how the unit is designed so I am interested to know if the alignment is the same for other people or if mine is rogue and I need to follow up again with Seicane.

Also I am interested if there are any android whizz kids out there who know if there is anyway that I might be able to adjust the display to make it fit the screen properly.

All in all though a very nice bit of kit for the price!

I'll check my screen and get back to you TP. It looks like it's the same as mine. And yes, I seem to remember having to use a scalpel on the lugs a bit.

Mmmm. see what you mean. Here's a pic of mine. I wonder if there's setting? I know you can adjust how many apps appear in the grid. Try resetting it maybe. I had to reset mine because of IGO nav problems and it worked for that. Bit of a drag but at least you can reload everything from Google play.

You could also try downloading a different keyboard. I can recommend Gboard which I use on my phone.

Thanks guys, I have installed Gboard and it has made it a bit better.
The keyboard has moved up a mil or 2 so it is the same as Osi's now.
Not perfect but much less noticeable and not enough to lose any sleep over !

Nice one TP. How are you getting on with the nav? Did you get the Igo built in. I had some trouble getting POI to work. Fixed it now.

Thanks Osi.
I did get the Igo with it and it does appear to work OK however I have not had much chance to get out and use the car lately so it hasn't had a real test yet.
I will let you know when I have given it a good test!
Thanks

Hi guys I have a 2011 R171 with a audio 20 single cd head unit and ye may be able to help me out a little.
The Bluetooth on it seems its only for phone and not for audio from what I can make out so I have a few options I was thinking of to play the music from my iphone but unsure will they work,

Can the audio 20 head unit be updated so it can take audio through Bluetooth?

There is what looks like a 3.5mm audio jack in the glove compartment of which I could plug a Bluetooth adapter into , the only prob is there is no cigarette lighter in the car so I have no way of powering it , is there a usb socket anywhere that I wouldn't have seen?

The last option then would be to do an install the same as what ye did, so what would be the Seicane model number ye have used, and is their a UK Seller I can purchase off, I am based in West London so is their anyone that you can recommend to fit it as preferably don't want to go ripping out the dash myself on the car
I tried to upload pics but for some reason its saying the file size is too big even though I had no probs uploading in other posts I have made on here.

All help appreciated.
Thanks
Vinny

Hi Vinny, I have the H240G. You will see loads of pics under my post. Unfortunately like most of these Chinese units, they don't have a UK supplier but they do promise no import tax since they ship via their UK warehouse. Ripping the dash out isn't as complicated as you may think once you have mastered removing the gear knob! Wiring can be fiddly tho especially with the HK system which I had. I reckon Audio 20 should be a doddle. I must say, these Android units will transform your life. Dynavin have a UK dealer in the Midlands but they are hugely expensive and in my experience have been unreliable and in the dark ages with their Windows based units.

@osi, Was your original head unit a Comand with HK speakers? I like the looks of this unit. Do you recall the model number? From the reading I have done so far, it appears that I may have to purchase the optical fiber decoder in order to work with the amp.
