This might work for any tablet with a flip cover. I came up with the idea to hang the tablet with an elastic band as I wanted to be able to access the climate control dials easily.
This cost me next to nothing to make. I re-used some existing picture hangers and had some black elastic (used for tailoring). I sprayed the hangers with black plastic dip and let it dry for a few hours and applied a second coat.
First picture here shows the elastic in place. If you don't know to look for it, you can't see it from outside of the car.
Second picture here shows the tablet hanging on the elastic. The cover of the tablet is flipped back and the elastic band is sandwiched between the cover and the tablet. I have the ashtray open to support the tablet.
A few notes. The tablet covers part of the navigation screen. If you do not have nav, then I guess it is ok. Because of the elastic, you can easily lift the tablet up with one hand to adjust the climate controls. The downside is that the hazard lights switch might get depressed accidentally (or you can't hit it quickly in case of emergency). The tablet does not fall or knock against the dash when I drive hard (start, sudden stop, make sharp turns), so far so good.
While Apple maps or Google maps might be fine to use in the day, I really do not recommend anyone to use those apps on the tablet in the car if mounted this way at night. There is no "night mode" and it is too glaring. I have a TomTom app that automatically switches to night mode, and is really much better without the glare.
I do have the iPod connection kit and have the lightning adapter. Pandora works well this way, and that really was the motivation for mounting the iPad on the dash.
