Question R172 seats into an R170 anyone?

I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not it is possible to fit seats from an R172 into our 2003 R170 please?
I am quite capable of carrying out most DIY tasks myself, and have replaced several car interiors in the past, but not on the SLK.
Just need to know if it is theoretically possible, and if so what adaptations I would need to make.
If it is totally impossible to do so, then why?
The seats in our R170 are a little tired, and I have been considering the options of replacing the seats versus replacing seat cushion foam & covers - and it would seem more cost effective to replace the seats.
If it possible to use a much newer set of seats, then this clearly makes more sense to me.
