Okay, I bought my 1997 SLK230 a few months ago and it was absolutely stock, no modifications. I could buy a newer model, I am one of those people who really enjoy tinkering and modding and so for various reasons this car is perfect.
The chassis, engine and interior are in excellent condition and the car only has 80k miles, however there are a few things which need sorting, hence I choose to go down the modding route.
The front wings are bubbling up near the headlights, the exhaust is blowing and the alloy wheels are appalling. So here is a list of things I plan to do, and will put all the progress in this thread:
So far I have fitted a Mercedes R170 SLK Silver Chrome AMG Grille and replaced the exhaust with a custom midsport cat-back stainless steel exhaust which sounds awesome!
On the to-do list are:
Front AMG bumper
Rear bumper/splitter
Side skirts
VMAX front wings
VMAX bonnet
Chrome angel eye headlights
Rear spoiler
Refurb/replace alloy wheels
Speer pulley kit
ECU remap
Transmission kit and refill
Suspension upgrade
Like I said, adding it all up I could just buy a newer model, but then there would be no fun to have. I like modding, and I love this car.
Here are some photos of said car:
