Twin/quad exhaust conversion?

R170 pre facelift

As per title, has anyone done this or know of any kits available to convert to a twin/quad exhaust?
I've seen pictures so it must be possible but not yet looked underneath to see how it can be done!

Hi there, might be a little late for a reply but I will give it a go anyway.

Two weeks ago I took my 1997 pre facelift 170 to a specialist to get a quad exhaust fitted, they said that they didn't think it could be done but they would be happy to put it up on the ramp and have a look. When I got there, we put the car on the ramp and had a quick look, no it can't be done really because there are too many components in the way like the spare wheel sump.

Have a look at the W203 floor plan, it's very much the same at the rear end:

I expect it can be done, but would require a lot of alteration? The AMG models have a single back box too.

I went for a single back box and I am more than happy with it. You could of course fit a fake pair of pipes on the other side, i've seen that before LOL

Hope that helps.

Here's a better view of an actual R170 courtesy of Onixxf who is a member on this forum:

As you can see there isn't any room underneath to accommodate another back box and associated pipework.

I really appreciate your input. I've seen a few twin/quads on Google image searches but it does look virtually impossible so not sure how those have been done as who would put a fake exhaust on a car?!!

I can only guess that they remove/cut/modify the spare wheel sump so that they can slot the other exhaust in there?

Hi there Joe, mine is just a single exit cat back, I really wanted a twin exit but the custom shop said that they couldn't/wouldn't do it.

I am really happy with my single exit though, very nice sound.
