LED Indicator Hyperflash

I've read a lot of threads about the subject. This post was a good read, but alas, no independent relay to replace for me. I have the good-ole old style indicator relay as part of the CCM/pcb.

Is there a solution that doesn't involve load resistors? My thoughts are probably not. So next question, where do I attach the load resistors? I understand they go across the cables prior to the socket - easy to do on the front, but less so on the rear which is where I need some insight.

All help greatly appreciated.

Did you try replacing the black turn signal relay in the engine fuse box to an led relay? The thread post is in the DIY forum.

The turn signal relay mentioned in the linked post, doesn't exist on my motor. The clicking comes from the one of the relays on the CCM module (I've watched the relay click whilst trying to resolve a different issue - which ended up with me replacing the multi-control-stick doobry).

I have a single black relay where the yellow one is and that's it.

ok. I can't help, but hopefully others can. My guess would be to find which wires are for the turn signal from the wire harness plug into the tail light. Once you find the wires you can t-tap into those wires with your resistor wires. 50watt 6 Ohm is very popular these days. I would look for 50watt 8 Ohm (more resistance), I got some from the UK two months ago. Need to mount them on some metal to get rid of the heat they generate.

The alternative I've found, albeit a little more expensive are a pair of bulbs which (apparently) don't generate the hyperflash - they're save having to add load resistors which get incredibly hot:

Amber Error Free No Resistor Required 1156 7506 7527 LED Turn Signal Light Bulbs | eBay

It would mean I'd have to return the LED bulbs I've already got - 2 pairs are cheaper than 1 pair on the link...

....or I opt for the chromed non-LED bulbs. Probably the easier and cheapest solution.

Could try to use a canbus led bulb. I was not successful yet. Refer to my post on LED's and wiring my halos. You need enough resistance in the circuit to not hyper blink and get rid of the bulb out indicator light. Isn't the rear signal a JY type bulb (pins are no 180 degrees from each other). The pins should look like 4 or 5 o'clock from the bottom. Will try this weekend to add LED's to the rear signals. I have swapped out my back-up lights with canbus LED's. I get the bulb out signal when I go in reverse.

Canbus LED;'s already installed - both front and rear are 1156 (not opposing bulbs). I don't get any warning lights, just hyper-flash.

Load resistors are your hope unless you can wire in some other lighting (LED light bars in front). You just need more resistance to trick the computer to think it is a regular bulb. wire in from the signal plug. It is on the same circuit. You can probably get away with resistors under the hood in front as the signals (rear and front) are on the same cicuit.

So your thoughts are load resistors on the front ought to take care of the entire circuit. Not sure adding more light is the way forward, so have purchased a couple of 50W 6 ohm load resistors for a couple of quid delivered. In your money, $3.50.

Cool Led indicators

Check what I have put into mine.
No errors at all and a regular flash
I don't know how to do a link

Cheers Russ

Do CREE bulbs have greater resistance?

For the short-term, I've put standard chrome bulbs at the front in the halo'd headlights and standard orange jobbies at the rear (seeing as you can't see them, it doesn't make a huge difference).

The resistors in front would put resistance in the circuit. Did you try looking for 8 Ohm?

I had already bought 6 ohm resistors before your suggestion - should arrive Thu/Fri next week (due to public holiday Monday). The 8 ohm variant are 5x more expensive.

Cool

I don't know about any increased resistance, I just put them in and they work a treat. The rears are slightly visable and when parked next to another 55 you can see a slight difference as there is no orange now.

Why is some one that has a 2007 slk55 posting to the r170 forum? Many updates to the newer models do not apply to our older models.
