I've installed a Sony Xplod MEX-BT2700 but it's blindingly bright at night... I was hoping there would be some way to dim it at night along with the dashboard lights... Anyone know?
hey..this is just a guess and what i would do.. you have to find a power circuit for the LCD -Leds.. Measure the power that it requires and cut off the power connection to the lights of the lcd...than solder the wires from dash lights resistor to that lcd power IF voltage is similar....if not, adjust it with other elements ... BIG project....:burnout:
or to do it separately from the dash... put a variable resistor on the power line of the lcd lights... easier...:biglaugh:
thanks fabi... I'm not sure there's a separate power source for the LEDs without opening it up and fiddling inside.... Not sure I'd be too confident doing that... Might just stick a bit paper over it at night!! ;-)
Looking at the schematic, doesn't look like there's a line to detect "lights on", so I think you are pretty much out of luck without some serious hacking. Seems odd, as I've had much cheaper radios that did dim.
Dimmer: To change the brightness of the display you can set the MEX-BT2700 to one of two dimmer modes - Dimmer Off (deactivates the dimmer) or Dimmer On (display always dim).
