Neither my wife or I have had any problems with the seats in ours so far. But after we've driven to Le Mans and back we might have a different view, we'll just have to see..

I find the lumbar support lacking, and have purchased an aftermarket bladder I'm going to fit to my seat next trip stateside. Other than that - and it takes over an hour of driving to really bug me - I find the seats comfortable.

I did spend some time getting it set to the most comfortable settings for me - which was further forward, with the steering wheel "in" more that I would have on another car. Hard to describe, but after spending some time playing with it, I'm quite comfortable. Previously I've used a rolled up golf towel behind my lower back.

My wife and I both find the seats in our SLK extremely comfortable. We have the lumbar support option. I'd probably be telling a different story without it.

It is so nice, we have referred to it as the "better back" car.

I've gotten used to my seats and I drive 40 minutes to and from work. More lumbar would probably be a welcome modification for me. I'll look into it when I fix the heater in the upper part of the driver's seat.

I've drove from Sindelfingen (sp?) to Telfs, Austria to Munich, no problems, but could use some lumbar support.

Sometimes I feel like my ass is going to fall thru the seat, like it opens up, and sometimes I support mysefl on the seat to get out of the mcar and it makes a clanking noise. My back has gotten ised to the seat but the first few weeks it was hell.

I've noticed that most people are not indicating if they have the adjustable lumbar support option. For those that feel it needs more lumbar support, do you have that option and find it is not enough, or do you have no adjustable support?

When it comes to seat comfort, I think everyone will be different in what works for them. Regardless, it is helpful to know if people are talking about the same or different seats when it comes to the support.

Hey Carver - so the lumbar support option is only available on the face lifted models as far as I know. I obviously don't have it on my car. I looked at retro-fitting it, but in typical MB fashion, it's a serious engineering project.

The air compressor and holding tank are fitted below the mounting points for the roll bars, and then pneumatic lines are run under the interior carpet to the seat control wheels, and then up into the seat to a two section air bladder. Not trivial, but maybe I'll poke Adam and convince him to do it next time he dissects his seats! :-)

I have driven a couple of FL cars that have the lumbar option fitted, and while it's absolutely "better", I still would have like a bit "more". Caveat here is that I didn't spend as much time playing with it, as I was having too much fun just playing with a new '55! ;-)

I also complicated my life by taking a SL55 for a drive immediately afterwards the last time, and the seats in the SL are really massively better (and bigger..).

Still, I've now made the decision to trade my C in for a SLK here in London, and it was actually a very hard decision to pass on the SL. Two very different cars, both awesome in their classes - wife swears it's because the "SL is for old folks"! :-)

Not trying to be a hijacker, but for me the SL is simply too big for the UK roads. Cruising down the motorway would be fine. But in traffic and nipping around the A & B-roads would be just too tight IMO, with a lot of weight to chuck about too. Whereas for me the SLK seems pretty good all round.

Also, your wife is of course quite right (aren't they always)

Probably a stupid question, but are there any aftermarket seats from say Recaro or Corbeau etc. that are easily fitted to the SLK and at the same time don't look too ridiculous?

GeeJay, for the R170, I've seen some decent Recaro seats - for the R171, I've not really seen anything that I'd put in my car. I've also not seen anything that would support air scarf...

SL55 let's you throw it around a bit, but I completely agree, it's a big beast compared to the SLK!
