Anyone??

From the responses so far I guess we'll be there on our own...

We're definately going now all booked up.

Wed 10th - I'm flying home
Thurs 11th - We drive down to the south coast.
Fri 12th - Cross over on the ferry to Calais and drive down to LeMans. Pitch our tent at Maison Blanc.
Sat 13th - Race starts Saturday afternoon and runs through until Sunday afternoon.
Mon - 15th Drive back to Calais, cross over and drive back home.
Tues - 16th I fly back to Germany. (knackered no doubt)...

Just hope the weather is good and the traffic kind.

See you all there..

It sounds like a great weekend and I would have loved to have gone but cant make it this year, but I hope you ave a fantastic time?

I watched the Grand Prix at the weekend and fancy going to Spain next year for the race, I think it would be a great weekend sitting on the grassy bank with a picnic and a few beers watching the race over 2-3 days?

We hope it's a great weekend, we have always wanted to go but for some reason or other have never gotten around to it.

As for the Spanish GP, I've not been to the race, but really like the city of Barcelona and would be quite happy to go back again sometime.Taking in the GP would be a nice bonus.

I would not wish to take the SLK though, last time we were there we noticed that every car has bangs and scrapes on each corner. Parking is a total nightmare. I would not be happy to find someone using our car as a parking brake..

Cheers!

The closest I get is Petite Lemans every year at Road Atlanta. This year it is on the same weekend as the SLKWorld retreat so I'll not be going this year.

OUCH!!!!!! I dont like the sound of that, but I like the idea of the drive down.

I think the idea of renting a place for the weekend and leaving the SLK there and getting a taxi to the GP, sounds great, and a few beers in the hot Spanish sun would be a must.

Let's see. After we get back from Le Mans we'll have a better understanding of how comfortable the SLK is over a long run.

Yep, I do believe you're right about that, Pontiac did build a Le Mans..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_LeMans

It's a shame that they (Pontiac) are no more. The Solstice GXP is a fun little car, perhaps the best they've made?

We had a great time last weekend end at Le Mans. Only saw 2 SLKs there, an 09MY 200K and a 55 AMG... It was a great drive down and back and the seats were pretty comfy, no problems... I've put some pics in a gallery if anyone wants a squizz..

Cheers!

Thanks... I took quite a lot of pics, but it's not a very photographer friendly circuit unless you have a press pass. There's lots of fencing in the way. I'll put another gallery together though.

I did manage to survive the diesel fumes thanks Woolly.. The Audis and Peugeots have DPFs fitted anyway, so there's not much in the way of fumes... They are very quiet at high speed too, all rather odd for a race car with a 5.5L engine.

Cheers!

This is a prime example why the Indianapolis 500 has gone down the tubes. Not allowing technical excellence rule.

Let technology win the race. I believe they should remove the weight and fuel tank size penalties on the diesels and let the others catch up without their numerous restrictions instead of the allusion called competition parity. That improves technology.

The problem is that because diesel is higher density than gasoline, having the same size tank means that the diesels are carrying more fuel (carbon) and can go longer between pitstops. Also, diesel engines are inherently more efficient that gasoline engines because they have higher compression ratios and no throttle plate. They also produce more torque at lower engine speeds and don't rev so high. So for an endurance race, going diesel has a number of fundamental advantages over gasoline, which makes it 'unfair'.

For Le Mans the leading gasoline car (007 Aston Martin) finished 4th overall, 9 laps off the leader or 2.35% and only 3 laps or 0.8% behind the lead Audi even though the fastest lap by the Audi was 1.4% quicker than the Aston. That's pretty tight and made the race interesting.

I minor tweak is all that's needed to the current regulations to make it so that gasoline is in with a real chance of winning.

Your back to competition parity. I say... let it roll without competition parity.
