Absolutely.

It takes less time, done at my convenience, and I have control over what oil is put in (Castrol Syntec 5-50w).

I haven't done my own on the Benz as I hear it requires a special tool. I do my own on my 510 though.

Certainly have in the past, but haven't had my SLK long enough for it to need a change yet..

In the past I know of a dealer that refilled with an oil that did not meet the right specifications. So I do prefer to change my own, but don't always..

Never. I guess I am just lazy and do not care much for the mess. Would probably change my own oil if I had ramps or a lift for better access and the car was no longer under warranty. With my luck I would forget something and void the warranty.

Yeah, I do mine when I have time (MityVac to the rescue!), but I also have the dealer deal with it when I don't have the time.

Most maintenance on my SLK is therapy. The C, on the other hand, is much more a "take it in, drop it off, pick up loaner, etc.." Of course, having a nice workshop in the states and a tree in the UK makes a load of difference as well!

I've always changed the oil in all my cars. The two MBs are the exception. Not that I couldn't, I just take it to the dealer when the car tells me to.

I'm thinking about doing mine, wondering about the ramps and the clearance of the bumper.

Rhino Ramps (can even get from Walmart).

Cheap and work great. They even work on my other car with much, much less clearance.

you do mean $6 x 9 = $54 right ?.... still $30 for 4 filters is a great deal!

I have done all the oil changes myself, might get the next one done at the dealer though, cause my C service is coming up

That's really a waste of your time...money...and oil. Studies have shown, especially with synthetic, the oil is no where near broken down after only 3000 miles. Anyway...don't mean to attack you on it, just thought I'd bring it up.

I change the oil in both cars and do most all my own maintenance. It helps having an automotive hobby shop close by.

Not only am I saving the €100/hr, but it's theraputic for me as well.

Easy to change oil!

It was almost as easy to change the oil and filter as it was in any other car japanese or american make. Just sucked the oil out of the dipstick tube with my boat pump and changed the filter out of the top side without jacking up the car. This is my first Benz: used 99 SLK 230 sport Kompressor in firemist red with 55,000 miles. Now the transmission: that will be a more challenge!!

The tranny oil/filter change is simple. Before you start go on ebay and get yourself a dip stick for around $20 or so. Also i would recommend getting the oil there as well, its alot cheaper than the dealer.
