I just can't find a car!
Guys, help me please.
I am losing faith.
I have decided that I should be buying a manual 350. I have also decided that it must have an amg bodykit.
Usually I would retrofit but that's going to cost me about £2500 on a good day. Then add in the AMG wheels and it's £4000 ontop of the purchase price of the car.
I am worried enough as it is about resale looking at a manual MB, but to spend £4000 (cost of modding the new car) to fit options to a lacking second hand car, I am basically throwing money down the toilet.
So the only thing to do is buy a car already equipped with the AMG bodykit and therefore wheels. That way these options are already included in the second hand price.
Thing is, I also have to insist on heated seats and air scarf. I'd also like parktronic but it isn't a necessity.
I have found almost the perfect car. It has all the above (not parktronic) and also BIX and memory seats. The thing hitting me each time I look at the ads is it is silver. I can't get past that. With the body kit it looks great still, but not great in the way a black car does.
Thing is, this silver car is £16k! That is about the right price I think, but every other idiot trying to sell is looking at 20k without most of the options. There is another black car I'd buy but at 19,500 starting price, if I sort out the body and the wheels I am in for 24/25k, and it still won't have xenons. That's nigh on £9k difference in price (it is 18 months newer to be fair but age doesn't bother me - mileage is only 8k different).
There are only 4 black 350 manuals on sale at the moment that I can find in the UK. 4!!!!! One has the body kit but no interior bits and is £20k, one has the interior, but no body bits, is newer too and is 19.5k, the other too are much older and have neither body kit nor interior options, and are also around the 20k mark.
Then there is this silver one that has pretty much everything I want for £16k. That is a huge difference. But I know it's just not what I want.
With only four manuals currently on the market what are the chances that one will turn up with everything I want and for £16,000ish?
I suspect it is highly unlikely.
You could argue that I have simply misjudged the price of the car, but how do you explain the unsold silver ones at 16k? Not everyone is such a sucker for a black car as I am, so why haven't they sold?
If I resort to buying the heated seat black one detailed above for 19,500, at finishing time I am in for £24k as I said above. For that money I can get a similar money AMG in the trade, though I suspect neither will hold their money, one because it's a 5.5 litre, and fuel can reach £1.20 a litre with ease here again, and the other because it's a manual.
There are countless auto 350s with everything I want on them, but I know they are not the car for me. If I start compromising on what I want, I know I'll be unhappy. Does that mean I should give up trying to find the right slk for me and look at other options.
I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, looking for something that most likely doesn't exist, and if it did exist, it would be financial suicide to buy it.
