I just can't find a car!

Guys, help me please.

I am losing faith.

I have decided that I should be buying a manual 350. I have also decided that it must have an amg bodykit.

Usually I would retrofit but that's going to cost me about 2500 on a good day. Then add in the AMG wheels and it's 4000 ontop of the purchase price of the car.

I am worried enough as it is about resale looking at a manual MB, but to spend 4000 (cost of modding the new car) to fit options to a lacking second hand car, I am basically throwing money down the toilet.

So the only thing to do is buy a car already equipped with the AMG bodykit and therefore wheels. That way these options are already included in the second hand price.

Thing is, I also have to insist on heated seats and air scarf. I'd also like parktronic but it isn't a necessity.

I have found almost the perfect car. It has all the above (not parktronic) and also BIX and memory seats. The thing hitting me each time I look at the ads is it is silver. I can't get past that. With the body kit it looks great still, but not great in the way a black car does.

Thing is, this silver car is 16k! That is about the right price I think, but every other idiot trying to sell is looking at 20k without most of the options. There is another black car I'd buy but at 19,500 starting price, if I sort out the body and the wheels I am in for 24/25k, and it still won't have xenons. That's nigh on 9k difference in price (it is 18 months newer to be fair but age doesn't bother me - mileage is only 8k different).

There are only 4 black 350 manuals on sale at the moment that I can find in the UK. 4!!!!! One has the body kit but no interior bits and is 20k, one has the interior, but no body bits, is newer too and is 19.5k, the other too are much older and have neither body kit nor interior options, and are also around the 20k mark.

Then there is this silver one that has pretty much everything I want for 16k. That is a huge difference. But I know it's just not what I want.

With only four manuals currently on the market what are the chances that one will turn up with everything I want and for 16,000ish?

I suspect it is highly unlikely.

You could argue that I have simply misjudged the price of the car, but how do you explain the unsold silver ones at 16k? Not everyone is such a sucker for a black car as I am, so why haven't they sold?

If I resort to buying the heated seat black one detailed above for 19,500, at finishing time I am in for 24k as I said above. For that money I can get a similar money AMG in the trade, though I suspect neither will hold their money, one because it's a 5.5 litre, and fuel can reach 1.20 a litre with ease here again, and the other because it's a manual.

There are countless auto 350s with everything I want on them, but I know they are not the car for me. If I start compromising on what I want, I know I'll be unhappy. Does that mean I should give up trying to find the right slk for me and look at other options.

I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, looking for something that most likely doesn't exist, and if it did exist, it would be financial suicide to buy it.

if color is the only thing holding you back,
you can simply have the color repainted.

from my personal experience, don't buy a car if it doesn't
completely satisfy you. I bought my slk 350 with no navi
or seat options and it bothers me here and there.

But if money is the issue, just drop couple of bucks and have it
re-painted...

Changing the paint color could be a big mistake, there will also be parts that show as the original color and will kill resale value.

Let me get this straight. You want a used manual 350, amg body kit, heated seats, airscarf in black at a decent price and you're surprised you don't find it on the spot? What did you expect? If you don't want to wait until that perfect ride comes along, you'll have to compromise.

Personally, I would only insist on it being a manual with heated seats and airscarf at a decent price and that's what I ended up getting. I actually don't like the AMG body kit as much, but had that been the only one available, I would have sucked it up. Also, my car is red, which initially wasn't my color of choice, but now I love it.

I don't think color is THAT important. I mean, when I purchased my car I was only interested in black. After having it for almost a year I like just about all the colors.

Silver isn't black, but it's not a bad compromise. Silver, along with black and white are the three most popular colors. The car you mention is a good price with the right options, but wrong color. Compromise. Once you wash it a couple of times, you'll learn to love the ease of maintaining.

Personally I dont like the present AMG bodykit, but it will be very difficult to get a car like the one you want, particularly because of the manual gearbox. I never saw a manual 350. I wish you luck in your cuest!

Adam,

have you seen this one?

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...leRegLetter=06

I know it doesnt have the heated seats or airscarf, but Dan has said the retro fit for these is do-able, just thought I would pass this on in case you had missed it?

Rgds,

Normski.

That looks like a nice car for a decent price. There were no manual 350's on autotrader last week when I took a look. IMO airscarf and heated seats are easy to live without anyway...

Good luck Adam, hope you find the right car...

Thanks guys.

Norm, Yes I had seen that. He was unwilling to drop the price but we have found a figure we can agree on. Now I just need to see it and to love it.

I had bought some seats on ebay that are red and heated with airscarf, which dan can retro fit. Meaning I can make up my perfect car for less than 20k. Again I'd just have to forgo parking sensors, which I can cope with.

The best bit is it doesn't have bloody comand, which means I can fit ntg2.5 comand instead of the A20 much more easily.

Just need to drive it and like it this time. Not sure what was up with the silver one I drove, but am hoping it was the colour.

I love the black with red leather combination.

I hope you do love it after all your soul-searching?

I dont think you need the parking sensors........I never get that close to anything (just in case) to make them worthwhile!!!!!!!

I dont have COMAND either, just make do with the CD but still waiting to fit the changer I got off you, still need some help on the wiring!!!!!

Good Luck on the car

Hey Adam, keep looking! I was thinking of you this weekend as I took my nephew for a ride! He absolutely approves, and his soccer team seemed to approve as well given the number of "can I go for a ride" requests.

As a side note, it's getting to be spring time in Louisiana, and god, but you gotta love the pollen that the trees are throwing off. The car was spotless about 5 hours ago!?!?

I've had a black SL and a black SLK. It
violates my axiom that no one ever buys
more than one black car. Love the look,
but I do all my own detail work on my cars
and the black almost drove me crazy. New
SLK55 is silver.....just as God and Gottlieb
intended......

The retrofit is off for the airscarf, and I definitely want it, so i have to find a black manual with it.

I have managed to buy the wheels I want and a genuine 55 amg bodykit in advance of whatever I buy, which makes it easier to find the right car.

I am going to hang on though!

what this means is that whoever it was that wanted alloys that I pm'd about it, I will have some spare when I buy my car.

it was fitting the smart top to my sister's car that brought me so much pleasure that i just had to get an slk!
