would you buy another black slk (or any car for that matter)?

I am in the market to purchase a 2005-2006 SLK this week. Within my area there are several that I like, but all seem to have their pitfalls.

There is one that is perfect - Diamond Silver w/ wood trim, airscarf, heated seats, low mileage, etc. But, the vehicle as located at a privately owned used car lot, ran by people I would rather not do business with.

Next one has everything I want, minus the airscarf, but it's black..... I'm a little OCD, but not overly so. I could live with the little swirls I've read about, but would be concerned about getting keyed or door dinged in a parking lot. My current vehicle is dark blue, but I'm not sure that would be quite the same as a black car.

I already wash my car 2-3x per week and see so many people with black cars, which makes me think they must be okay to own.

Would you buy another black car based on your current or previous experience owning one?

black cars are a lot to handle. but if you find a clean black car with only swirls and light scratching a full zaino treatment will make it look like wet paint. also washing 2 times a week is to much for black. washes should be limited to when the car is dirty then only use 100% usa made cotton towels and a 2 bucket system. this keeps the dirt in the bucket and not scratching the car. it takes a good bit of work to keep it sweet but worth it when you look at it!

I just recently got a black SLK. Hopefully the car would be in decent condition for you to start with.

I don't use a wash bucket wash as often as my car doesn't get too too dirty.

Every couple days I use quick detailers with a couple microfibers towels, one for the wet surface, and one to wipe fully dry. Keeps the light dust off the car, makes it look gorgeous, so this pretty much eliminates not liking a black car due to light dust.

For swirls, I'm very into detailing, so I use a DA polisher with some fairly aggressive paint cleaner, to get out swirls. It's a bit harder to remove swirls on Mercedes clear coat, but at the same time, it's a little bit harder to put swirls into it because the clear coat is harder.

Anyway, for me, the black hasn't been a complete disaster yet, so I would get another one. However, I was already obsessed with detailing my cars, so it really isn't extra work for me.

I love the look of black but silver and white are both growing on me.

By the sound of it you don't mind cleaning your car a couple times a week - that should be more then enough to have a black one looking sharp.

Not al all. A few yars ago owened a black BMW and when I sell it, its paint was ruined because of the weekly cleanings. The best paint is the silver to keep it clean everytime.

I think it depends on the dust, dirt, and climate where your live. I live in dusty ole' Oklahoma. The dust accumulates on the cars, roads, and everything else. If that were the only problem a California Duster would do the trick. But when it rains, all; the dust and dirt on the roads turns to light mud which gets all over the car. And we have too many times when it is too cold to wash. Sometimes it get too HOT to wash, as the rinse water dries on the car before you can blow or wipe it off, and this leaves a mess.

I've owned black cars before here, and would not do it again. They are too "unforgiving" of "quickie" wash jobs. They also show "white" in every pock and scratch. sI understand there are areas where a rain actually does a good car wash, because the drops don't pass through a layer of dusty air before hitting the car. Areas where things stay cleaner. If I lived in a "cleaner area" I might consider a black car. But not here.

Wow. I must be the outcast. I have only owned black cars for the last 25 years, and would have a hard time buying anything else. I keep it clean and detail it once a year. They look great with the right care. Only the last three years were in the non-winter states, so even that did not enter into my decisions.

Buy what you like and will be happy looking at for years to come...and realize that some choices might require a little more diligence to keep looking nice.

Also, please use the 'search this forum' feature for any questions you might have as they have probably been asked before.

my first slk 320 02 was black, second 05 slk 350 was silver and now i have a black one 09. I will probably get a silver 2012. fellow forum members know i am anal retentive about cleaning my car every day so it is true, when clean, it is beautiful!

Here is my daily routine:

When I get to work at 6 am I clean my car (gel the tires, clean the windows, wipe the fenders, mist wax the car, clean the rims). This takes 10 mins. On the way home (top down of course) the adventure repeats itself like groundhog day. When I am back in my garage, I repeat the cleaning process again getting her ready for the next day but include a vacuum.

No right or wrong answer here. Everyone should own a black car and decide for themselves. I owned a black Honda CRX Si, twenty years ago, wanted black, it drove me crazy, kept it for one year and sold it. I won't purchase another black car, but that's me.

You can't beat a clean black car!! I have been owning a few black cars before, but need to put in lots of effort to keep it clean. Sound like you don't mind the cleaning part, so shouldn't be a problem for you. It is getting too much for me and the time it takes, especially we have about 6 months of in snowy weather in Toronto. I eventually got myself a Diamond Silver SLK. I would choice this color again, much easier to keep clean.

Another welcome from Atlanta. You can see mine in the photo. Black was not my first choice, but color is an afterthought to me. Black looks great when clean, and when it's dirty, well it's just dirty! Not any slower!

I had a black Durango, I loved it, it looked great when it was clean. But I must say our white or silver vehicles are easier to keep clean. Also welcome from Florida.

I am desperate to find a black car, but am struggling big time. I have found some great silver cars for great prices with all the spec I want, but if it's not black I find it hard to be keen.

I know if I buy silver I'll just regret it, so am doing what I can to avoid it.

Wow, I've found the opposite to be true in my area. Unless you buy brand new there always seems to be a sacrifice you must make whether it's the color, airscarf, heated seats, wood trim, or any other combination.

Everyone says I'm "detail oriented".... and had a black Audi TT Roadster. It took me about an hour of cleaning every time I wanted to go out for a drive. Owned the TT for 9 months then traded it for my current Iridium Silver SLK350. I feel much better now.
