hit pot hole really fast, alignment is really off

So I hit a pot hot hole a year ago with the car going pretty fast on the right side. ~45mph and it even decided to unlock the doors (crash system) but that's it. The alignment is pretty off on the car and if you let go of the wheel driving it will sway to the right.

I took it to a tire shop and they had both my right rims remolded, which had flat spots in them. Then they added extension bolt system to allow them to bring the alignment back into spec. They apparently got it close but the car still sways to the right. When driving straight I have to hold the wheel left.

So my question is who can I take this too to figure out if there is something bent in the suspension/frame or what? I'm sick of bringing this car into non mercedes mechanics and have them try to gouge me and perhaps not even know what they are doing. However bringing it to mercedes will have its premium and I dont even know if they would have the right mechanics/equipment for this issue.

ideas? I live in LA.

Hi there,

I can't help with suggesting a dealer but to me its seems it's your only choice at this point in time. I understand how you feel though... about 4 months ago I hit two speed bumps, unsigned and worn paint late at night doing about 80kph.

Well we had lift off....!

I noted after that there was a distinct issue with the handling and sent it straight back to MB. The found some broken pieces in suspension (not too sure what they are - a while back to remember) and approx $500 back on the road.

I think you should head back to MB.

Good luck.

Dan.

just updated my profile, thanks for the info.

discodan, I'm surprised it wasn't more. Think I'll bring it in and have them look into it, do an alignment, etc.

Something like this should be covered by your car insurance. A simple alignment wouldn't be covered, of course, but if you sustained damage to your wheels, and they weren't able to bring the suspension back to specs, then I would definitely consider filing a claim with with your insurance as the repairs are sure to exceed the average deductible of $500. My insurance would probably waive the deductible, too, for damage where I wasn't 'at fault'.

But now that you've had some repairs done you may be out of luck.

I had some damage on a wheel and took it to a repair shop and they screwed it up. I then called my insurance company and was told that had I claimed the original damage, it would have been covered, but because I took it to a shop of my own choosing the insurance wouldn't cover it because they are not resposible for damage due to "poor workmanship".

i had a similar situation, took it to downtown mercedes, they quoted me 90$ for an alignment,.. however, one of the service techs (Sal) called me back about an hour after i dropped the car off and said they needed a bolt kit since the regular alignment would not work.. ended up paying $347

much later i found out that most other benz dealers (bev hills, rusnak, penske) charge for the bolt kit standard with all alignments and its around 280 flat.

bottom line: stay away from downtown mercedes
