Hi, as some of you may know I have been looking for a 350 for some time now. I'm trying to buy from my local auction and I'm finding that the 280s come up a lot more often than the 350s.
Up until now I've only really been looking at the 350s but is there really a lot of difference between them and the 280s?
Obviously the 280s would be slightly cheaper to run and slightly cheaper to insure but will I just be dissapointed if I get a 280 instead of a 350?
I have an older 320 and I love it. But I've decided to buy a 55 and have been looking for several months. Buying a used car is like fishing, you can't rush it. As for the 280/350/55 comparison, only you can really answer that. If you're looking for a great convertible, all three would do nicely. But each has slightly different characteristics. Some folks in England especially like the 280 due to the taxes. Others like it better as it has a less "aggressive" suspension and is reported to have a more comfortable ride for long trips. The same ride characteristics might be a disadvantage if you plan on racing or more spirited driving...
There are several threads in here discussing this very question. Search for different key words, and I bet you'll find one or more.
I'd advise you to drive both, and if the smile on your face is the same afterwords, then you'd be happy with either one. If you value your bank account, you might even like the 280 better. But if you're after performance, maybe you should wait for a 55.
Hope that was helpful, but probably not!
As for me, my 320 is 8 years old with 58000 miles, so I thought I'd look at new ones. After I drove a 55, I decided to get one. Now I'm waiting out the sellers. If I had bought a month ago, it would have cost me $5000 more. Every week two local sellers call me and drop their price slightly. When one sells, I'll most likely buy the other...
