Rock chips and scratches?

I'm just wondering how everyone here deals with little scuffs, scratches and rock chips that are an inevitability of driving. Where I live there are constantly trucks passing me and it seems that in a matter of months there are little tiny scratches and rock chips that are accumulating and I'm frustrated about knowing how to deal with it? Do you just wait for a while and then finally paint/replace the whole front of the car, or do you have some kind of clear guard on the front or what? I don't want to put any lebra on the front because then you might as well not even drive a nice car...as you never are actually "showing" the vehicle.

There are a couple that I absolutely have to deal with because I don't want them developing rust. Anyway, I would just like to hear some feedback from you guys about this because I'm just not sure what to do.

I guess I'm just more sensitive because of the kind of car this is, and I don't know if I'm overreacting about it or not.

I mainly use touch up paint from MB whenever I notice the small chips. Perhaps other members with the clear bra will chime in.

Chadwick,

I too appreciate the feeling as I still (thinking more and more each day of not) use the car daily... the toll on the body is ridiculous.

I am waiting to just bite the bullet and take it to a MB repair shop to have a whole lot of body work done as my baby has been the victim of a low-life useless individuals artistry with a set of keys on the passenger door.... If I ever found that person.......

So I know how you feel...!!!!

Man, that really sucks. I saw a beautiful SL the other day that some [email protected]$$ had keyed - some people are just a waste of air!

**** I really hate that, my worse nightmare is catching someone doing that to my car becuase I'm sure I'd either end up badly injured or doing time.

I'll go with a Clearshield if I ever get the nose repainted. In the mean time I got an Auto Sharp Pen from from http://www.autovisuals.com/. The color match is perfect. A finer tip marker would be nicer. But all in all, it works pretty well.

Has anyone bought door moulding or door edge guards? Does MB sell them?

I have decided to sell my 2 other cars and turn my 350 into a daily driver so I want to be prepared for those nasty other drivers that just swing out their door without a care in the world. A magnetic door moulding would also be good when I need to park at the mall etc.

I was looking at something generic like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-...1%7C240%3A1318

Such items are available at most auto parts stores, only they are adhesive mount. They are very inexpensive, and can be removed with some adhesive remover.

Where minor scratches are concerned (the type you would get if your car scraped on a shrub) a random orbital buffer (ROB) with some mild to medium abrasive polish will often do the trick. For this, I'd recommend a Porter Cable ROB, or the one sold by Griot's Garage, as the cheap ones don't do any good.

Thanks.

I was hoping to get something color keyed either aftermarket or oem.

But if there is no other choice, I will get the EBAY version and attach a magnet so I can take it out of the trunk when needed.
