Looks like a done deal!

Just shook hands on my new ride: -
SLK350 on 54 plate 32k miles with great spec including, airscarf, command, park, phone, xenons, 6cd, auto wipe & lights, 10 spoke and has a tracker fitted. obsidian with cream leather (looked very light beige to me).

Subject to getting it checked (thinking of using the AA unless anyone has a strong recommendation otherwise).

Also as it is a private sale I will be looking for a used warranty, again any recommendations greatfully accepted.

Didn't have the HK sound but I thought the command audio system sounded pretty good anyway, much better than the first one I tested.
I'm so damned excited don't think i'll sleep tonight
Will post photos when I get it but just wanted to say thanks to everyone for answering all my posts.

I'd use a Merc dealer to inspect it, AA won't be able to help you here (kinda like asking a TV fitter to re-wire your house).

The dealer can inspect it visually but more importantly they can use the computer and the car is clever enough that just about every system can be checked so any faults can be found, also ask for a quote on the MB warranty since its basically a direct replacement of the factory issued one.

Pleased you've found one your happy with mate.

P.S Does it have a FMBSH

Hi Dan

Thanks for the reply, It has a full MB service history the last service was last month.
On the vehicle check I did consider an MB check but the AA would come out understand they can't put it on a diagnostic test but they do a fairly comprehensive inspection. Also would it be fair to assume that as it was serviced last month that it will have had a recent diagnostic scope?
Would prefer an MB check on balance but then the seller will have to take it to MB this might be an issue.

Have just been looking at used warranties and Tesco are quoting 420 per year with no claim limit other than a maximum per year of the purchase price of the vehicle. Have you heard any reports good or bad about Tesco used car warranties?

Finally I saw you posted once that an MB dealer should be able to give you a full list of options on a vehicle can I get this infor from the sales or will I need to go to the service dept?

Thanks for all your help in previous posts you obviously know these cars inside out.

Best regards

Andrew R

It would have been checked at the service but thats not to say that everything was A-OK, it all comes down to the owners OK at the end of the day.

If it where me i really would use the dealer, if you pay for the inspection (wont take long) and the fuel to get to the dealer then i don't see what problems the owner would have, they could come along with the car to be sure its treated OK while it still belongs to them.

I don't know anything about the Tesco warranty but provided they allow the work to be done at a Merc dealership i don't see any issue, this being a Benz it really needs the dealers attention simply because of all the OEM equipment needed to work on them.

The service department will be able to get the datacard but you might need some proof your the owner so its probably best get them on-board with it.

Think I will ring the dealer and try and set it up with the seller on Tuesday.
The tesco warranty does allow you to use MB so I guess it is all down to the small print one thing that worries me reading it so far is that it excludes audio and sat nav I guess I will ring to check whether they mean integrated rather than 3rd party systems

Congrats on your new toy!! I'd second Dan's suggestion to have it checked at the dealers. One thing to check as well is if it has locking lugs, make sure you get the "key" lug from the owner. I've stuck with MB Factory / CPO warranty, and been very happy so far with the service and attention I've gotten from my dealers on both sides of the pond.

I've just spoken to someone called Matt at Mercedes Benz of Bath, the original supplying dealer and where the car has had all of its services. He was quite adamant that because I haven't purchased the car through a MB dealer I could not buy an extended warranty and when asked about having the car checked over he said again that they did not offer this service and suggested I used the AA.

Not withstanding what Dan has said It would be a major issue to ask the vendor to drive the car to another MB dealer as the next nearest one is over 30 miles away and so i have decided to have the AA do a check. Their comprehensive check was 250 and seemed to cover a hell of a lot, apart from a diagnostic scope. The car had an MB service last month and the familly that are selling it have a swimming pool larger than my house so I imagine that it will have been well looked after.
I will pop it in my local MB dealership when I have it back home and ask them for a multipoint check.
I am still unsure about the MB extended warranty but having spoke to MB direct today someone will ring me back on Tuesday. Having read other posts I expect it will cost about 1,000.
The top end Tesco one by comparison would cost 440 but would not cover the comand unit so I will have to have a serious think on this one. Have also looked at other Insurance based warranties and there is still a lot of research to do.

Will update on the warranty after I have heard back from MB.

Just a follow up on the warranty situation: -
Still waiting for Mercedes to call me back, really beginning to think that their posistion is if you don't buy a car from them or one of their dealers then you are not an MB customer!
Also not had any response from Tesco relating to an enquiry I made as to whether comand was covered.
However Warranty Direct have called and when I said I wasn't interested in their quote as it was (a) expensive and (b) the policy wording was way too one sided, Thy immediately offered to bump me up to the "luxury car" cover and reduced the premiuim from 800 to 450. I have read the new policy they attached and it is much fairer but still rules out audio and sat nav. I have asked for clarification as to whether they will cover comand but at 450 it seems a very good deal.

Getting car tomorrow and will post pics at the weekend!

I don't know how you are, but navi and audio coverage is hardly worth the difference in price, if it fails that seriously, you might as well get an aftermarket system that is at least up to date. MBs typically have systems 3-5 years behind in technology.
