Does The Number of Chrome Grill Bars Stand For Anything?

Looking at the newer SLK's having chrome grill bars similar to other models including SUV's and wondering if the number of bars stands for anything such as rank of model standing of some sort. Also can't help notice the AMG has a thinner bar more like old times. While early SLK's don't have bars their after market grills do with one or three bars available for around $150, though I was able to turn my 2002 (painted satin black) grill into one that really looks great with just $10 worth of half inch self adhesive chrome vinyl side molding and still have about ten feet left.

Folks customise. There is a thread on the 170.
I know you're looking 171 here, but the principle is the same.

So, yes, there are differences related to grills/fins,
but you cannot rely on it.

For example, many none AMG 171s have fitted the AMG front end.

When the 170 question was asked I was surprised just how many variations came back.
No point in remembering them though.
Folks swap them around.

But on oem they do indicate things like year, model type, engine size etc.
