Would You Use 100 Octane Fuel in YOUR SLK?

I've been all over the US but never seen "racing fuel" offered for sale to the general public. One station here in the town I work in offers 100 octane fuel. I've toyed with the idea of putting it in my 05 350 V6.

Oh mighty and great Mercedes warriors of the SLKWorld kingdom, I summon your collective voices and consensus on this subject.

Should I do it? Would you do it?

BTW I know I don't have a race car I'm just curious about what the effect might be.

How much per gallon was it?

some comments on the subject:

I think the market is for people (suckers) who think that putting it in a stock engine or and engine with bolt-ons will make a difference. Of course, I'm sure there are a handful of people in the area who can actually use it, but I would guess that the majority of the buyers are only buying it because they think it is cool.

I THOUGHT about it, but then realized 8 dollars a gallon for 113 octane fuel was going to get expensive the way I plan to drive...

If you have to ask.....

I didn't look at the price but from the pic it looks like $6.99 a gallon. Yes I agree it's mainly for suckers. Ive never been into the dirt track scene but I do think it's pretty big around here. I guess that's the target audience. Most of the time I'm a try-baby sometimes I want to be a do-baby. Of course #1 priority is not damaging my car.

Besides The Beast has enough horses to feed. Looking back and thinking I really wish I had opted for an 8 cylinder-but I am ignorant on the subject and I don't think they put 8s in the r171 SLK (I am just stupid enough to think that I could bwa-ha-ha). I admire the nose job cars but I prefer my big honker. I guess until I can potty by myself I'll just putz around in my little six banger.

Again I don't know what I'm talking about. When you guys say face lift, you mean the change in body style right? My 05 has the big long nose and the straight, smooth body. MB changed the body at some point, maybe starting in 09? I don't think I could have found my body style with an 8 cylinder engine. But I wasn't thinking like that then. I fell for a pretty face, not the first time.

facelift for r171 came in 2008 for europe and 2009 for usa

nose got chopped off for the r172 in 2011 for europe, 2012 for usa

body has been the same from 2004/5 through 2011.
see below for changes

The R171 features a number of revisions compared to its predecessor, the R170: a 30mm longer wheelbase, increased length (72mm) and width (65mm),[10] 40% increased use of high strength steel,[10] seven-speed automatic transmission, adaptive two-stage airbags, head/thorax sidebags and a revised roof mechanism (marketed as the Vario roof) deployable in 22 seconds (previously 25 seconds) with a rotary-pivoting rear window enabling a more compact folded roof stack and trunk storage increased by 63 litres with the roof retracted.[10] Optional features include remote operation of the retractable hardtop as well as a forced air, neck-level heating system integral to the headrests, marketed as Airscarf.[10]
The fully galvanized bodywork, which features 19 percent improvement in static bending and 46 percent improvement in torsional strength with the roof down, also features a 3% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency, with a Cd value of 0.32.[10] The design has been aerodynamically optimized to minimize interior draughts with the top retracted and includes a fabric windblocker which can be pulled up over the two roll-over bars.[10] Mercedes marketed the R171's tapering front end styling by designer Steve Mattin as "Formula One-inspired".[10]
Models of this SLK include:
SLK 200 Kompressor – 1.8 L 120 kW (163 PS; 161 hp) I4 supercharged engine, 0–100 km/h (62 mph) 7.9 seconds, top speed of 143 mph. (not available in Canada and the United States)
SLK 300 (known as SLK 280 in some markets) – 3.0 L (2996 cc) 170 kW (231 PS; 228 hp) double overhead cam V6 engine, 0–100 km/h (62 mph) 6.3 seconds, top speed 155 mph. (starting in 2006 model year)
SLK 350 – new 3.5 L (3498 cc) 200 kW (272 PS; 268 hp) double overhead cam V6 engine, 0–100 km/h (62 mph) 5.4 seconds, top speed 155 mph ou 250 km/h(electronically limited).
SLK 55 AMG – 5.4 L (5439 cc) 265 kW (360 PS; 355 hp) V8 engine, 0–100 km/h (62 mph) 4.9 seconds, top speed 155 mph (249 km/h). A modified version of this model was used in Formula One as its Safety Car during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.[11] The SLK55 AMG was also the first Mercedes tuned by AMG's Performance Studio to create the new "Black Series".
R171 facelift (2007)[edit]
In January 2008 at the Detroit Motor Show, the SLK-Class facelift was launched, following pre-show announcements in December 2007 with the first American owner being James Glass on Johnson City TN.[12] The R171 facelift included new engines, with a particular improvement to the SLK 200 and 350 with more power and better fuel efficiency. The exterior changes were subtle, with alterations limited to the front bumper design and new wing mirrors.[13]
SLK 200 Kompressor – 1.8 L 135 kW (184 PS; 181 hp) I4 supercharged engine
SLK 350 – 3.5 L (3498 cc) 224 kW (305 PS; 300 hp) DOHC V6 engine
SLK 300 and 55 AMG retained their existing engines

Look at my albums
you see a r171 right?
you see the nose you love right?
now the 55 has a v8 shoved in there

questions?

Yeah I guess I should have been more patient and done more research but like I said, I just fell for a pretty face. I haven't been without a vert in years and after the deer and insurance company were done with me I felt like a used up one eyed rag doll in a yard sale. I wasn't patient enough. I love my car I just wish she had more horses. Maybe I will be watchful for the right 55 to come along. (Don't worry my car can't read these posts). If I could get it past my spouse I'd have a stable full of ponies. But there's only so much room in the driveway....damn it.

So i guess where my mind is wandering is if I could shove a V8 into my Christine. If and when my balance shaft crumbles, rather than spend the $4000+ to have it repaired, I can be prepared with a V8. Just rip the scrap out and slide the V8 in. Makes perfect sense in my mind. The question is, will it fit? If the 55 is the same chassis, then I would think yes it would. I realize I must sound incredibly ignorant on the subject but hell I have to start somewhere.

Interesting idea but begs the question are all the SLK 55 transmission line components the same as the smaller engined variants, eg Diffs, drive shafts, hubs etc?
There is no way it could be cost effective as at least all of the brakes wheels, ECU would also need to be changed. Far better to by a 55 before your 350 sheds its sprocket teeth

I have the 302 HP V6 in My SLK 350 . Does anyone just use basic 87 octane? Just curious to see if anyone experiments and actually sees a difference between 87-92-94 octane.

per your manual, it should say minimum 91 or super if an amg
you should not scrimp to save a few pennies and use the lower octane. that is not how the car was designed.

I'd use it for 2 reasons
1 - to go slower
2 - to help empty my wallet

This misunderstanding is far more common than it should be, the HIGHER the octane, the LOWER the power. That is a FACT.
That statement is independent of the issue where an engine is built & tuned with higher compression and ignition advance, that REQUIRES a higher octane fuel to prevent pre-ignition and engine damage.
Using too high of an octane rating, out of the range of tuning on an engine gains nothing, other than increased cost.
The higher the octane, the slower the burn, harder to ignite, that is what the rating represents.

Would NOT do an engine swap...way too much trouble. Stick with the rated octane. Had to put 87 octane in my slk32 (V6-350 hp)....only once!

Now Roxy....there is a thought for more power (SLK32), but does not come with the long nose😞. It is the classic one!😉
