No Paperwork CPO Extended Warranty

Wonder if the members who purchased an extended warranty with their CPO SLK can tell me if they received any paper work specific to the warranty. The only documentation I have is a $2,000.00 charge on my bill of sale. It doesnt even show that it is two additional years of coverage. The salesman assured me not to be concerned because the warranty would be "in the computer" if service was needed. However, I would think that documentation as to terms of the warranty, (start date, end date, mileage) would be given to the purchaser.

On both my '350 stateside and my '55 in the UK I received details of the duration of the coverage on the bill of sale, and a ton of paperwork regarding what was covered as a separate set of documents.

When I purchased mine CL55 and added the CPO extended warranty, it listed the mileages and dates start/end coverages on the bill of sale/contract. You can always call NA Mercedes to verify your coverages. Btw, if you never need to use the warranty for the life of the term, Mercedes will refund the full amount to you. I'm not sure if Mercedes policy change since 7 years ago. And another thing, Mercedes extended the mileages coverages up to 125k miles now and not the old policy up to 100k miles. I currently has the CPO on mine 2009 C350 5yr/150k miles. The Slk55 with aftermarket warranty that I just used for rear main seal and valve covers leak. Almost a $2000 repairs job and I pay only $200 deductible. Extended warranty is a must have on Mercedes.

Now for a contrasting view.

Never had an extended warranty and never had a Mercedes that needed one. My guess is that 90% of the people who buy extended warranties don't get make out on them. They are nothing but insurance policies and the insurance companies almost always win on any kind of a policy. Now if it makes you sleep better at night to have one, go for it. Otherwise it is generally going to be a losing proposition. That being said, I certainly will not turn down a car if the previous owner already paid for one and it transfers to me.

LOL - I've come out ahead with the extended warranty on the SLK UK side, and at least broke even on the '350 stateside. C Series was completely trouble free, so lost on that one.

Two seat bases on the '55 UK side at 3000gbp each, one rear sway bar link (7gpb part, 300 gbp labor!?), and the obligatory M113 valve cover seep fix more than made it worthwhile.

The '350 stateside cooked the HK AGW about 11 months in, and the dealer decided that my opinion didn't matter, so replaced the COMAND head first, and then the AGW second - gotta love milking MB corporate! :-)

Honestly - none of the above truly justified the extended coverage, but having it let me have MB fix things I'd have done myself otherwise - with the possible exception of the seat heaters, where I'm sure I would have eventually managed a repair myself.

Sounds too good to be true. Can you reference something in writing on this.

There were nothing in writing when i bought the Mercedes extended warranty but the sale person told me so. I called NA Mercedes to confirm and they said "yes".

I wouldn't worry about warranty on C-class with 4 and 6 cylinders. They are very reliable. On AMG you definitely need one. I paid $3800 for 4/50k miles on the Slk55, so far with only 6k miles driven since I bought the car and it already cost the insurance $1800. On my CL55, cost me $4K for the Mercedes extended warranty. I owned the car for 2 years and it cost Mercedes over $14K in repair bill. The intrustment cluster went out and cost $6700 for parts and labors. Then the high hydrolic suspension pump, seal, motor mount....etc.

Thanks to all for your input. As a follow-up I e-mailed the pre owned sales manager at the dealership who sent me an 8 page document specifically detailing the covered parts, exclusions, end date etc. Something the salesman should have done from the beginning.
