How to check the year of manufacture

Hi,
I have put a deposit for a 2nd hand SLK 200k R171. The dealer told me that the year of manufacture is 2007 but i suspect it is a year 2006. Here's the identification number WDB1714422F107605 8. The engine no is 27194430709498. Would appreciate if anyone can help me on this? I don't want to be conned by unscrupulous 2nd hand car dealer. Thanks in advance.

Year of manufacture and model year may or may not be the same. For example a model year 2007 came out in the fall of 2006, so even though the year of manufacture could be 2006, the car would still be called a 2007.

This may help. I know it works for US models, but I'm not sure if it is the same for non-US models.

So was manufactured in August of 2005, and delivered in November. It's a MY2006 car. Also be aware this car was manufactured for the Japan market, and as such, has a significantly "different" entertainment / navigation system that ROW or US spec cars.

Print the attached datacard out and ask your dealer why he knows more than Germany! :-)

And what's the difference? The R171 model is a timeless car (if taken care of it properly). This is one of the best models ever produced. MB made a mistake with producing it before the current models

MY2005 had the highest default feature spec, and also had a couple of features that were dropped in MY2006. Newer cars tend to have higher value, and then you have the facelift - so whilst I agree the that R171's a stunning, knowing what you have or don't have - and paying appropriately is important! :-)

I completely agree with you, UK-C200. Some of the upgrades are important and some of them are evident only for the trained eye. In this particular case, I do not think there is such a difference.

If one day in the future they decide to produce the R171 model again, I will be the first one on the queue.

The R172 is a great car too! If I have the chance one day, I will buy them even in three different colours of each generation!
